Was Jesus a false prophet?
by Tuese Ahkiong
Was C.S. Lewis right in writing that Jesus was wrong about His return, thus making JESUS A FALSE PROPHET or was Lewis wrong along with many Christians today about the return of Christ? What does The Scripture say?
THE TEST OF A PROPHET OF GOD
Deuteronomy 13:1-5
“If a prophet
or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a
wonder, 2 and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and
if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us
serve them,’ 3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer
of dreams. For the Lord your
God is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul. 4 You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep
his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast
to him. 5 BUT THAT PROPHET OR THAT
DREAMER OF DREAMS SHALL BE PUT TO DEATH, because he has taught rebellion against
the Lord your God, who
brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of
slavery, to make you leave the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall
purge the evil from your midst.
**A prophet must teach correctly about God when he or she makes a prophecy or be
put to death.
Deuteronomy
18:22
22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word
that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it
presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.
**A prophet predictions must come true 100% of
the time or be put to death because he or she is speaking falsely in God’s
Name.
Galatians
1:8-9
8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you A GOSPEL CONTRARY TO THE ONE WE PREACHED TO YOU, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching
to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.
**Even angels can appear with a message, i.e., Islam,
Mormonism… That message must be TESTED
against Scripture.
Acts
17:10-12
10 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when
they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they
received the word with all eagerness,
EXAMINING THE SCRIPTURES DAILY TO SEE IF THESE THINGS WERE SO. 12 Many of them therefore believed, with not a few Greek women of
high standing as well as men.
**The Bereans put The Apostle Paul, a writer of The New Testament
in check with The Word of God which was just the Old Testament during that
time.
1
John 4:1-3
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but TEST THE SPIRITS TO SEE WHETHER THEY ARE FROM GOD, FOR MANY FALSE PROPHETS HAVE GONE OUT INTO THE WORLD. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is
from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of
the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.
***Spirits or a person’s
beliefs can be tested whether they are from God or not. Is what they are teaching consistent with
Scripture?
Now let's look at what C.S.Lewis said in his essay, “The World’s Last Night?”
But there is worse to come. "Say what you like we shall be told, "the apocalyptic beliefs of the first Christians have been proved to be false. It is clear from the New Testament that they all expected the Second Coming in their own lifetime. And, worse still, they had a reason, and one which you will find very embarrassing. Their Master had told them so. He shared, and indeed created, their delusion. He said in so many words, this generation shall not pass till all these things be done/ And he was wrong. He clearly knew no more about the end of the world than anyone else."
It is certainly the most embarrassing verse in the Bible. Yet how teasing, also, that within fourteen words of it should come the statement "But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are In heaven, neither the Son, but the Father/' The one exhibition of error and the one confession of ignorance grow side by side. That they stood thus in the mouth of Jesus himself, and were not merely placed thus by the reporter,we surely need not doubt. Unless the reporter were perfectly honest he would never have recorded the confession of ignorance a tall; he could have had no
motive for doing so except a desire to tell the whole truth. And unless later copyists were equally honest they would never have preserved the (apparently) mistaken prediction about "this generation** after the passage of time had shown the (apparent) mistake. This passage (Mark 13:30-32) and the cry "Why hast thou forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34) together make up the strongest proof that the New Testament is historically reliable. The evangelists have the first great characteristic of honest witnesses: they mention facts which are,at first sight, damaging to their main contention.
***C.S. Lewis was right about the timing of Jesus' return but he was DEAD WRONG about its nature. Homeboy, as smart as he was was BIG TIME stupid in writing "The World's Last Night." By saying Jesus' was wrong opens the door to the Gospel being wrong, Christianity being wrong, The Bible being wrong. Why couldn't his great wisdom have said, "I, the great C.S. Lewis, am wrong in my understanding of the nature of Christ's return because I see hundreds of time statements that stick it in that first century generation to whom Jesus' spoke, thus, I shall change my theology or just remain quiet and not write a paper called "The World's Last Night!"" lol.
Lewis, like myself, and millions of others throughout the centuries have been brought up on traditions, teachings of men, assumptions that are brought to the text. Essentially, we just listened to the knuckle head that came before us without being a Berean to challenge, study and understand from Scripture the nature of how these events took place.
1. Matt. 10:23 “You shall not finish going through the cities of Israel, UNTIL THE SON OF MAN COMES.”
*IF JESUS SAID THIS TO YOU in the first century, do you THINK HE WAS TALKING ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE IN THE FUTURE 2000 plus years?
2. Matt. 16:27-28 “THE SON OF MAN IS ABOUT TO COME IN THE GLORY OF HIS FATHER WITH HIS ANGELS and will then recompense every man according to his deeds.” THERE ARE SOME OF THOSE WHO ARE STANDING HERE WHO SHALL NOT TASTE DEATH UNTIL THEY SEE THE SON OF MAN COMING IN HIS KINGDOM.” see Rev.22:12
*DID “SOME”OF JESUS’ DISCIPLES WHO WERE STANDING WITH HIM WHEN HE SPOKE THE ABOVE WORDS, LIVE TO SEE THE SON OF MAN COMING IN HIS KINGDOM or was Jesus wrong as C.S.Lewis would say?
see John 21:21-23
3. Matt 23:33-37 “You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? 34Therefore I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town. 35And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36I tell you the truth, ALL THIS WILL COME UPON THIS GENERATION.
**Did not thePharisees persecute and kill the saints? Yes, Paul was an example.
Did not Jesus make that generation of unbelieving Jews responsible for the blood of Abel to Zechariah son of Berekiah? Yes, that's what He said.
Does not Rev 16:6, 18:4, 19:1-2 speak of this fulfillment which was coming soon, quickly, near? Yes. Was Jesus wrong that that generation would face the judgment He is speaking of? No, they were judged.
4. Matt. 24:34 “THIS GENERATION WILL NOT PASS AWAY UNTIL ALL THESE THINGS TAKE PLACE.”
**“All these things” is everything from verses 4-34 which includes The Great Tribulation,The Gospel going out to the world, false prophets; sun, moon, stars darkening, turning to blood, falling and the parousia.
Was Jesus wrong as C.S. Lewis would say or did Jesus fulfill what He said He would do? No. All these things took place. And no, the word is NOT genos for race. It is genea for generation which is the lifetime of a group being referred to.
5. Matt. 26:63-64 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.” {64} “Yes, it is as you say,” Jesus replied. “BUT I SAY TO ALL OF YOU: IN THE FUTURE YOU WILL SEE THE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF THE MIGHTY ONE AND COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN.”
*IS NOT JESUS PRONOUNCING JUDGMENT ON THE JEWS OF HIS TIME? Yes.
IS HE NOT STATING THAT THEY WILL SEE HIM? Yes
*IS HE NOT USING OLD TESTAMENT JUDGMENT LANGUAGE TO DIVINITY IN THAT GOD COMES ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN AND THAT IS THE REASON THE PHARISEES WANT TO KILL HIM? Yes.
see Matt 16:27-28, Rev 22:12
6.Rev. 1:1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants THE THINGS THAT MUST SOON TAKE PLACE. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,
* HOW LONG IS SOON?
7. Rev. 1:3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, FOR THE TIME IS NEAR.
*How long is near?
8. Rev.1.4 John, To the seven churches inthe province of Asia: Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was,and who is to come, and from the seven spirits[a] before his throne,
WAS THE BOOK OF REVELATION WRITTEN TO 21ST CENTURY CHRISTIANS? No, it was written to the 7 churches in Asia 1st century!
9. Rev. 1.7 Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even THOSE WHO PIERCED HIM and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.
*ARE THOSE WHO PIERCED JESUS STILL ALIVE? No.
DOES THIS TELL YOU SOMETHING ABOUT THE TIMING OF JESUS' COMING IN THE CLOUDS? Yes, it would be in the lifetime of those who pierced Him. see Matt 26:63-64
10. Rev 1:9-11 I, John, your brother and partner IN THE TRIBULATION and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet, 11 saying, “Write in a book what you see, and SEND IT TO THE SEVEN CHURCHES: to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”
*DID YOU EVER NOTICE THAT JOHN SAID HE WAS IN THE TRIBULATION? No, because I was using a biased NIV translation. Hahaha. Go to the Greek or get more literal Bible like ESV, NASB or YLT.
DID YOU EVER NOTICE THAT THE BOOK OF REVELATION WAS WRITTEN TO THE 7 CHURCHES IN ASIA AND NOT TO YOU IN THE 21ST CENTURY? No, because all the Bible preachers and teachers were duped into futurism saying that it was written to us in the 21st century.
11. Rev 2:5 ‘Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first or else I AM COMING TO YOU and will remove your lamp stand out of its place—unless you repent.
12. Rev 2:16 Repent therefore! Otherwise, I WILL SOON COME TO YOU and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
13. Rev. 2:25 “Nevertheless whatYOU HAVE, HOLD FAST UNTIL I COME.”
14. Rev 3:3 ‘So remember what you have received and heard and keep it, and repent Therefore if you do not wakeup, I WILL COME LIKE A THIEF, AND YOU WILL NOT KNOW AT WHAT HOUR I WILL COME TOYOU
*IS JESUS NOT WARNING TO COME TO THESE CHURCHES in discipline? Yep.
15. Rev. 3:10“I also WILL KEEP YOU FROM THE HOUR OF TESTING WHICH IS ABOUT TO COME UPON THE WHOLE WORLD.”
*DID JESUS KEEP THIS CHURCH FROM THE HOUR OF TESTING? Yep.
16. Rev. 3:11 I AM COMING SOON. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown.
*HOW LONG IS SOON? Definitely not 2000 years. Well, if the book of Revelation is written to the 7 churches in Asia and Jesus is addressing them, then SOON should be super near after they receive Jesus' message.
17. Rev. 22:6 And he said to me, "These words are trust worthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants WHAT MUST SOON TAKE PLACE."
19. Rev. 22:7 "And behold, I AM COMING SOON. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book."
20. Rev. 22:10 And he said to me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, FOR THE TIME IS NEAR.
21. Rev. 22:12 “Behold, I AM COMING SOON, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done.
22. Rev. 22:20 “Yes, I AM COMING QUICKLY.”
*IS SOON, QUICKLY AND NEAR LONGER THAN 2000 YEARS? No.
DOES I AM COMING QUICKLY MEAN HE’LL BE DELAYED FOR 2000 PLUS YEARS? No.
If God wanted Christ's return soon, near, at hand, quickly, shortly, what language would He then use? Ah!!!
Hold every teaching of man, even our favorites like C.S. Lewis; traditions; creeds; confessions, fictional books and movies like Left Behind.... suspect and in subject to the only standard for spiritual Truth, The Word of God.
NO! The Holy Spirit did NOT move the Bible writers to pen false prophecies!
NO! Jesus is NOT a false prophet! He did what He said He would in that first century generation. Yay! Now, aren't you glad that these cataclysmic events are in our past like the great tribulation, beast, 4-seven fold judgments, sun darkening, moon turning to blood, stars falling to earth??
The both of you are looking at TWO different returns. You also make the mistake, along with them, that the Bible only teaches ONE return. You NEED to figure this out, and when you do, you will have the truth.
