W.H.O.INTERPRETS THE BIBLE

W ords of the text, in context. All words have meaning. God’s words communicate God’s thoughts to us! Genre-The type of literature. Accordingly particular rules of interpretation will apply to each kind of writing; Historical Narrative, poetry and wisdom, or prophetic writings.

Historic setting.  The time of the writing, the writer and his purpose, and those to whom the message was addressed must be considered! *Audience relevance is so important because the Bible was NOT written “to” us in 21st century but “for” us. Many readers are very egotistic in that they constantly read themselves into the text.

O ther Bible Texts. The Bible has unity of doctrine. We must compare Scripture with Scripture to seethe whole picture (This is known as the analogy of faith put forth and taught by The Protestant Reformers.).

Here’s a great acronym for interpreting Scripture: HAT HAT

The phrase “The Day of The LORD” is used throughout Scripture to describe NATIONAL JUDGMENT by YHWH.  There is one passage it is used for the sabbath (Isaiah 58:13).  YHWH often uses foreign armies to bring His judgments.  Below are several examples.

Many futurists have defined this phrase to mean an end of the physical world in which Jesus returns to save the righteous faithful and judge and destroy the wicked.  This is incorrect and goes against Scripture.  The New Testament was written in “The Last Days.”  A good question to ask is “Last Days of What?”  The Last Days of the Old Covenant Age.  The destruction and national judgment upon Jerusalem in 70 A.D. by YHWH’s servants, The Roman armies, demonstrated that Old Covenant Age ended.

YHWH often uses apocalyptic language to describe his judgments which employs sun darkening, moon turning to blood, stars falling, earthquakes, fire, burning, smoke...  This is not to be taken literally.

Here are examples of THE DAY OF THE LORD which refers to NATIONAL JUDGMENTS:

Isaiah 13:6-9
 The oracle concerning Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.
On a bare hill raise a signal;
    cry aloud to them;
wave the hand for them to enter
    the gates of the nobles.
I myself have commanded my consecrated ones,
    and have summoned my mighty men to execute my anger,
    my proudly exulting ones.

The sound of a tumult is on the mountains
    as of a great multitude!
The sound of an uproar of kingdoms,
    of nations gathering together!
The Lord of hosts is mustering
    a host for battle.
They come from a distant land,
    from the end of the heavens,
the Lord and the weapons of his indignation,
    to destroy the whole land.
Wail, for THE DAY OF THE LORD is near; as destruction from the Almighty it will come!
Therefore all hands will be feeble, and every human heart will melt.
They will be dismayed: pangs and agony will seize them; they will be in anguish like a woman in labor.  They will look aghast at one another; their faces will be aflame.
Behold, THE DAY OF THE LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land a desolation and to destroy its sinners from it.
10 For the stars of the heavens and their constellations
    will not give their light;
the sun will be dark at its rising,
    and the moon will not shed its light.
11 I will punish the world for its evil,
    and the wicked for their iniquity;
I will put an end to the pomp of the arrogant,
    and lay low the pompous pride of the ruthless.
12 I will make people more rare than fine gold,
    and mankind than the gold of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will make the heavens tremble,
    and the earth will be shaken out of its place,
at the wrath of the Lord of hosts
    in the day of his fierce anger.
14 And like a hunted gazelle,
    or like sheep with none to gather them,
each will turn to his own people,
    and each will flee to his own land.
15 Whoever is found will be thrust through,
    and whoever is caught will fall by the sword.
16 Their infants will be dashed in pieces
    before their eyes;
their houses will be plundered
    and their wives ravished.

17 Behold, I am stirring up the Medes against them,
    who have no regard for silver
    and do not delight in gold.
FULFILLED: National Judgment upon Babylon in 539 B.C.  YHWH uses the Medes to punish Babylon.

That day is THE DAY OF THE LORD God of hosts, a day of vengeance, to avenge himself on his foes. The sword shall devour and be sated and drink its fill of their blood. For the Lord God of hosts holds a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.
11 Go up to Gilead, and take balm,
    O virgin daughter of Egypt!
In vain you have used many medicines;
    there is no healing for you.
12 The nations have heard of your shame,
    and the earth is full of your cry;
for warrior has stumbled against warrior;
    they have both fallen together.”

13 The word that the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to strike the land of Egypt:

You have not gone up into the breaches, or built up a wall for the house of Israel, that it might stand in battle in THE DAY OF THE LORD.

Ezekiel 30:3
For the day is near, THE DAY OF THE LORD is near; it will be a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations.

Amos 5:18-20
18Woe to you who desire THE DAY OF THE LORD!  Why would you have THE DAY OF THE LORD?  It is darkness, and not light,
19  as if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him, or went into the house and leaned his hand against the wall, and a serpent bit him.
20  Is not THE DAY OF THE LORD darkness, and not light, and gloom with no brightness in it?

Obadiah 1:15
For THE DAY OF THE LORD is near upon all the nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you; your deeds shall return on your own head.

Zephaniah 1:7-9
Be silent before the Lord God!  For THE DAY OF THE LORD is near;
the Lord has prepared a sacrifice and consecrated his guests.
And on THE DAY OF THE LORD's sacrifice—“I will punish the officials and the king's sons and all who array themselves in foreign attire.
On that day I will punish everyone who leaps over the threshold,
and those who fill their master's house with violence and fraud.

Zephaniah 1:14
14 THE GREAT DAY OF THE LORD is near, near and hastening fast; the sound of THE DAY OF THE LORD is bitter; the mighty man cries aloud there.

Malachi 4:1-6
“For behold, THE DAY IS COMING, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble. THE DAY THAT IS COMING SHALL SET THEM ABLAZE, SAYS THE LORD OF HOSTS, SO THAT IT WILL LEAVE THEM NEITHER ROOT NOR BRANCH. But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. And you shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, on the day when I act, says the Lord of hosts.
“Remember the law of my servant Moses, the statutes and rules that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel.

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before THE GREAT AND AWESOME DAY OF THE LORD COMES. And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.”

Acts 2:16-20
16 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:
17 “‘And IN THE LAST DAYS it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;
18 even on my male servants and female servants
in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in the heavens above
    and signs on the earth below,
    blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;
20 the sun shall be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood,
    before the DAY OF THE LORD COMES, the great and magnificent day.

****In Acts 2, Peter is sighting from Joel 2:10-

Joel 1:15
15 Alas for the day!  For THE DAY OF THE LORD is near, and as destruction from the Almighty it comes.

Joel 2:1, 10-11, 28-32
Blow a trumpet in Zion; sound an alarm on my holy mountain!  Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for THE DAY OF THE LORD is coming; it is near,

10 10  The earth quakes before them;
    the heavens tremble.
The sun and the moon are darkened,
    and the stars withdraw their shining.
11 11  The Lord utters his voice
    before his army,
for his camp is exceedingly great;
    he who executes his word is powerful.
For THE DAY OF THE LORD is great and very awesome;
    who can endure it?

28 28 “And it shall come to pass afterward,
    that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
    your old men shall dream dreams,
    and your young men shall see visions.
29 29 Even on the male and female servants
    in those days I will pour out my Spirit.

30 “And I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and awesome DAY OF THE LORD COMES. 32 And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the Lord has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom the Lord calls.

Joel 3:14-17
14 Multitudes, multitudes, in the valley of decision!  For THE DAY OF THE LORD is near in the valley of decision. 15 The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining. 16 The Lord roars from Zion, and utters his voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earthquake.  But the Lord is a refuge to his people, a stronghold to the people of Israel. 17 “So you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who dwells in Zion, my holy mountain.  And Jerusalem shall be holy, and strangers shall never again pass through it.

YESHUA PROPHESIES THAT JERUSALEM WOULD BE DESTROYED IN HIS DISCIPLES' GENERATION AND TOOK PLACE IN 70 A.D.

Matthew 24:1-3, 27, 30, 34
24 Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. But he answered them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, there will NOT BE LEFT HERE ONE STONE UPON ANOTHER THAT WILL NOT BE THROWN DOWN.”
As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, WHEN WILL THESE THINGS BE, AND WHAT WILL BE THE SIGN OF YOUR COMING AND OF THE END OF THE AGE?”

27 For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be THE COMING OF THE SON OF MAN.

30 Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see THE SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN WITH POWER AND GREAT GLORY.

34 Truly, I say to you, THIS GENERATION WILL NOT PASS AWAY until all these things take place.

you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in THE DAY OF THE LORD.

***This man was sleeping with his father's wife.  Delivering the man to Satan was delivering him to the Jews who personified satan and had authority to discipline.  The Day of the Lord was near in which Jerusalem would be judged.  see http://tueseahkiong.blogspot.com/2015/06/did-apostate-jews-personify-satan-devil.html

For you yourselves are fully aware that THE DAY OF THE LORD will come like a thief in the night.  While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.

***The Thessalonians were aware that THE DAY OF THE LORD would happen in their life time just as Yeshua taught and Paul states that they wouldn't be surprise by that day.

not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that THE DAY OF THE LORD has come.

***The Day of the Lord cannot be an end of the world, end of the physical earth concept if Paul could be writing the Thessalonians not to be shaken if a letter supposedly from him stating that the day of the lord happened already.

But THE DAY OF THE LORD will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.

***Again, Peter was aware that Yeshua taught that THE DAY OF THE LORD would be in his generation.  He also by Holy Spirit confirms Joel 2 in Acts 2 on the day of Pentecost that THE DAY OF THE LORD was at hand.

Revelation 1:10  I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet

*Churchianity incorrectly assumes that John was in the Spirit on Sunday. LOL.  He was in the Spirit in that He was shown The Day of The Lord in which God would judge Jerusalem.  (70AD).  The book of Revelation is John's Olivet Discourse and depiction of the destruction of Jerusalem.
