In America, it was ILLEGAL TO TEACH SLAVES TO READ AND WRITE, at least until 1863, when the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln, issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
Lincoln's actions caused widespread panic among the DEMOCRAT SLAVEOWNERS, who feared that if slaves could read and write, they would be much harder to control.
After about 100 years of progress (albeit very slow due to Jim Crow and other anti-black Democrat policies in the South) the descendants of slaves were once again enslaved by the welfare state, compliments of Democrat president Lyndon Baynes Johnson.
