CLOUD COMINGS IN THE BIBLE

Cloud comings of The Lord are apocalyptic descriptions of God's glory, presence, and judgment. God is Spirit and not physical. Scripture describes clouds as physical and apocalyptic. In Isaiah 19:1 " The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it. " God did not physically surf into Egypt on a cloud. This is apocalyptic language describing God coming to judge Egypt often using foreign armies, plagues, nature.

Exodus 16:10 "And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, THE GLORY OF THE LORD APPEARED IN THE CLOUD."

Exodus 19:9 "And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I COME UNTO THEE IN A THICK CLOUD, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD."

Exodus 34:5 "AND THE LORD DESCENDED IN THE CLOUD, AND STOOD WITH HIM THERE, and proclaimed the name of the LORD."

Leviticus 16:2 "And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: FOR I WILL APPEAR IN THE CLOUD UPON THE MERCY SEAT. "

Numbers 11:25 "AND THE LORD CAME DOWN IN A CLOUD, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease. "

Psalm 18:9-12 "HE BOWED THE HEAVENS ALSO, AND CAME DOWN: AND DARKNESS WAS UNDER HIS FEET. 10 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind. 11 He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. 12 At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.

Psalm 97:2-5 "CLOUDS AND DARKNESS ARE ROUND ABOUT HIM: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne. 3 A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about. 4 His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled. 5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. “

Psalm 104:3 "Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: WHO MAKETH THE CLOUDS HIS CHARIOT: who walketh upon the wings of the wind. "

Daniel 7:13 "I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one LIKE THE SON OF MAN CAME WITH THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him."

Joel 2:1-2 Blow a trumpet in Zion;
    sound an alarm on my holy mountain!
Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble,
    FOR THE DAY OF THE LORD IS COMING; it is near,
²A DAY OF DARKNESS AND GLOOM,
    A DAY OF CLOUDS AND THICK DARKNESS!
Like blackness there is spread upon the mountains
    a great and powerful people;
their like has never been before,
    nor will be again after them
    through the years of all generations.

Nahum 1:3 "The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and THE CLOUDS ARE THE DUST OF HIS FEET."

Zephaniah 1:14-15The great day of the Lord is near,
    near and hastening fast;
the sound of the day of the Lord is bitter;
    the mighty man cries aloud there.
¹⁵A DAY OF WRATH IS THAT DAY,
    A DAY OF DISTRESS AND ANGUISH,
A DAY OF RUIN AND DEVASTATION,
    A DAY OF DARKNESS AND GLOOM,
A DAY OF CLOUDS AND THICK DARKNESS,

NEW TESTAMENT CLOUD COMINGS

Matthew 24:30 Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and THEY WILL SEE THE SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN WITH POWER AND GREAT GLORY.

Matthew24:4-34 would be completed in Jesus’ generation. 34 “Truly, I say to you, THIS GENERATION WILL NOT PASS AWAY UNTIL ALL THESE THINGS TAKE PLACE.”

Matthew 26:64 Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on YOU WILL SEE THE SON OF MAN SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER AND COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN.”

**Jesus tells the High Priest that he will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of power and COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN. Only God comes on the clouds of heaven. God has done this all through out the O.T. and NOT once was seeing floating on a cloud. Jesus basically was claiming to be God by stating He would come on the clouds. This is why Pharisees wanted to kill Him.

Mark 13:26 And then THEY WILL SEE THE SON OF MAN COMING IN CLOUDS WITH GREAT POWER AND GLORY.

Mark 13.30 says “30 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.”
*The Son of Man coming in clouds would take place in the 1^st century.

Mark 14:62 And Jesus said, “I am, and YOU WILL SEE THE SON OF MAN SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER, AND COMING WITH THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN.”

*This is Marks account of Christ before the high priest.

Luke 21:27 And then they will see THE SON OF MAN COMING IN A CLOUD WITH POWER AND GREAT GLORY.

*Luke 21:32 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all has taken place.
*The Son of Man coming in clouds would take place in the 1^st century.

Revelation 1:7 BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, AND EVERY EYE WILL SEE HIM, EVEN THOSE WHO PIERCED HIM, and alltribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.

Revelation 1:7 Behold, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.

Revelation 10:1 Then I saw another MIGHTY ANGEL COMING DOWN FROM HEAVEN, WRAPPED IN A CLOUD, with a rainbow over his head, and his face was like the sun, and his legs like pillars of fire.

Revelation 14:14 -16 Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Put in your sickle, and reap, FOR THE HOUR TO REAP HAS COME, FOR THE HARVEST OF THE EARTH IS FULLY RIPE.” 16SO HE WHO SAT ON THE CLOUD SWUNG HIS SICKLE ACROSS THE EARTH, AND THE EARTH WAS REAPED.

· Those who pierced Christ were of course the Roman soldiers but the ultimate culprits were the unbelieving Jews. Zechariah 12:10 “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, WHEN THEY LOOK ON ME, ON HIM WHOM THEY HAVE PIERCED, THEY SHALL MOURN FOR HIM, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.

Remember, this is apocalyptic language which is highly figurative and symbolic. It is not to be interpreted literally!

Scripture uses seeing not only in the visual sense but also in the understanding, perceiving, and comprehending sense. You see? Lol.
