FIRMAMENT in Scripture NKJ

from the Vulgate firmamentum, which is used as the translation of the Hebrew raki'a . This word means simply "expansion." It denotes the space or expanse like an arch appearing immediately above us. They who rendered raki'a by firmamentum regarded it as a solid body. The language of Scripture is not scientific but popular, and hence we read of the sun rising and setting, and also here the use of this particular word. It is plain that it was used to denote solidity as well as expansion. It formed a division between the waters above and the waters below ( Genesis 1:7 ). The raki'a supported the upper reservoir ( Psalms 148:4 ). It was the support also of the heavenly bodies ( Genesis 1:14 ), and is spoken of as having "windows" and "doors" ( Genesis 7:11 ; Isaiah 24:18 ; Malachi 3:10 ) through which the rain and snow might descend.
Genesis 1:6-8
6 Then God said, “Let there be a FIRMAMENTin the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” 7 Thus God made the FIRMAMENT, and divided the waters which were under the FIRMAMENTfrom the waters which were above the FIRMAMENT; and it was so. 8 And God called the FIRMAMENTHeaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.
Genesis 1:14-20
14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the FIRMAMENTof the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the FIRMAMENTof the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. 17 God set them in the FIRMAMENTof the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
20 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the FIRMAMENTof the heavens.”
Genesis 7:11
In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

Ezekiel 1:22-26
22 The likeness of the FIRMAMENTabove the heads of the living creatures was like the color of an awesome crystal, stretched out over their heads. 23 And under the FIRMAMENTtheir wings spread out straight, one toward another. Each one had two which covered one side, and each one had two which covered the other side of the body. 24 When they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of many waters, like the voice of the Almighty, a tumult like the noise of an army; and when they stood still, they let down their wings. 25 A voice came from above the FIRMAMENTthat was over their heads; whenever they stood, they let down their wings.
26 And above the FIRMAMENTover their heads was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like a sapphire stone; on the likeness of the throne was a likeness with the appearance of a man high above it.

Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the FIRMAMENT, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever.
Amos 9:6 NASB
The One who builds His upper chambers in the heavens And has founded His VAULTED DOME OVER THE EARTH, He who calls for the waters of the sea And pours them out on the face of the earth, The Lord is His name.
