A GOOD SOLDIER OF CHRIST by Tuese Ahkiong 6/3/18

A GOOD SOLDIER OF CHRIST by Tuese Ahkiong 6/3/18

2 Timothy 2 :1-7

You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also. Share in suffering as A GOOD SOLDIER OF CHRIST JESUS. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27

24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.

Paul likens saints in the ministry as fellow soldiers and ministry as warfare.

Philippians 2:25  I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need,

Philemon 1:2 and Apphia our sister and Archippus our fellow soldier, and the church in your house:

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging waraccording to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,

1 Timothy 1:18  This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,

A GOOD SOLDIER IS TRAINED AND KNOWS HIS WEAPON

1.Luke 6:40  A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully TRAINED will be like his teacher.

2.Heb 12:10-11 Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holinessNo discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been TRAINED by it.

3.1Tim 4:7Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, TRAIN yourself to be godly.

4.Heb 5:14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have TRAINED themselves to distinguish good from evil.

5.2Tim 3:16 "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for TEACHING, rebuking, correcting and TRAINING in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Ephesians 6 THE ARMOR OF GOD
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
