HYMNS, PRAISE SONGS, PATRIOTIC SONGS, CALLS TO WORSHIP
Compiled by Tuese

HYMNS

1)  A MIGHTY FORTRESS
1. A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; our helper he amid the flood of mortal ills prevaling.  For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; his craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal.
2. Did we in our own strength confide,
our striving would be losing, were not the right man on our side, the man of God’s own choosing. Dost ask who that may be?  Christ Jesus, it is he; Lord Sabaoth, his name, from age to age the same, and he must win the battle.
3. And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God hath willed his truth to triumph through us.  The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him; his rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure;one little word shall fell him.
4. That word above all earthly powers,
no thanks to them, abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours, thru him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; the body they may kill; God’s truth abideth still; his kingdom is forever.
2)  ABIDE WITH ME
1.  Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
2.  Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see; O Thou who changest not, abide with me.
3.  Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies. Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
3)  ALL CREATURES OF OUR GOD AND KING
1.  All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
Oh, praise Him Alleluia
Thou burning sun with golden beam
Thou silver moon with softer gleam
Oh, praise Him Oh, praise Him
Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia
2.  Thou rushing wind that art so strong Ye clouds that sail in heav’n along Oh, praise Him Alleluia
Thou rising moon in praise rejoice
Ye lights of evening find a voice
Oh, praise Him Oh, praise Him
Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia
3.  And all ye men of tender heart,
Forgiving others, take your part,
O sing ye! Alleluia!  Ye who long pain and sorrow bear, Praise God and on Him cast your care! O praise Him, O praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
4.  Let all things their Creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness
Oh, praise Him Alleluia Praise, praise the Father praise the Son And praise the Spirit three in one Oh, praise Him Oh, praise Him Alleluia Alleluia Alleluia
4)  ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS' NAME!
1.  All hail the power of Jesus' name!
Let angels prostrate fall; bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all.  Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all.
2.  Ye chosen seed of Israel's race, ye ransomed from the Fall, hail Him who saves you by His grace, and crown Him Lord of all. Hail Him who saves you by His grace, and crown Him Lord of all.
3.  Let every kindred, every tribe on this terrestrial ball, to Him all majesty ascribe, and crown Him Lord of all. To Him all majesty ascribe, and crown Him Lord of all.
4.  O that with yonder sacred throng we at His feet may fall! We'll join the everlasting song, and crown Him Lord of all. We'll join the everlasting song, and crown Him Lord of all.
4.1) ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS’ NAME!
All hail the power of Jesus' name!
Let angels prostrate fall, let angels prostrate fall; bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him, crown him,
crown him, crown him, and crown him Lord of all.
2.  Ye chosen seed of Israel's race, ye ransomed from the fall, ye ransomed from the fall, hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him, crown him, crown him, crown him, and crown him Lord of all.
3.  Let every kindred, every tribe
on this terrestrial ball, on this terrestrial ball, to him all majesty ascribe, and crown him, crown him, crown him, crown him, and crown him Lord of all.
4.  O that with yonder sacred throng
we at his feet may fall, we at his feet may fall! We'll join the everlasting song, and crown him, crown him, crown him, crown him, and crown him Lord of all.
5)  AMAZING GRACE
1. Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found, Was blind, but now, I see.
2.  T’was Grace that taught... my heart to fear.  And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.
3.  Through many dangers, toils and snares...we have already come. T’was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.
4.  The Lord has promised good to me... His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be... as long as life endures.
5.  When we’ve been here ten thousand
years... bright shining as the sun. We’ve
no less days to sing God’s praise... then
when we’ve first begun.
6)  AND CAN IT BE?
1.  And can it be that I should gain An interest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain— For me, who Him to death pursued?  Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
C:  Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
2.  ’Tis mystery all: th’Immortal dies: Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries To sound the depths of love divine.  ’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore, Let angel minds inquire no more. ’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore; Let angel minds inquire no more.
3.  He left His Father’s throne above So free, so infinite His grace— Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam’s helpless race: ’Tis mercy all, immense and free, For O my God, it found out me!  ’Tis mercy all, immense and free, For Omy God, it found out me!
4.  Long my imprisoned spirit lay, Fast bound in sin and nature’s night; Thine eye diffused a quickening ray— I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
5.  Still the small inward voice I hear, That whispers all my sins forgiven;
Still the atoning blood is near, That quenched the wrath of hostile Heaven.
I feel the life His wounds impart; I feel the Savior in my heart. I feel the life His wounds impart; I feel the Savior in my heart.
6.  No condemnation now I dread;  Jesus, and all in Him, is mine; Alive in Him, my living Head, And clothed in righteousness divine, Bold I approach th’eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own.  Bold I approach th’eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
7)  AT THE CROSS
  1. 1. Alas! and did my Savior bleed And did my Sov’reign die?  Would He devote that sacred head For such a worm as I?
At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light, And the burden of my heart rolled away, It was there by faith I received my sight, And now I am happy all the day!
  1. 2. Thy body slain, sweet Jesus, Thine— And bathed in its own blood—While the firm mark of wrath divine, His soul in anguish stood.
  2. 3. Was it for crimes that I had done He groaned upon the tree? Amazing pity! grace unknown! And love beyond degree!
  3. 4. Well might the sun in darkness hide And shut his glories in, When Christ, the mighty Maker died, For man the creature’s sin.
  4. 5. Thus might I hide my blushing face While His dear cross appears, Dissolve my heart in thankfulness, And melt my eyes to tears.
  5. 6. But drops of grief can ne’er repay The debt of love I owe:Here, Lord, I give myself away, ’Tis all that I can do.
8)  BE THOU MY VISION
1.Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;  Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art. Thou my best thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
2. Be Thou my Wisdom, Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee, Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I thy true son; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
3. Be Thou my battle-shield, sword for my fight, Be Thou my dignity, Thou my delight. Thou my soul’s shelter, Thou my high tower. Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.
4. Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise, Thou mine inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
5. High King of heaven, my victory won, May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heav’ns Son! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my vision, O ruler of all.
9)  BENEATH THE CROSS OF JESUS
1. Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand The shadow of a mighty Rock Within a weary land; A home within the wilderness, A rest upon the way, From the burning of the noontide heat, And the burden of the day.
2. Upon that cross of Jesus Mine eye at times can see The very dying form of One Who suffered there for me; And from my smitten heart with tears Two wonders I confess The wonders of redeeming love And my unworthiness.
3. I take, O cross, thy shadow For my abiding place; I ask no other sunshine than The sunshine of His face; Content to let the world go by, To know no gain nor loss, My sinful self my only shame, My glory all the cross.
10)  BLESSED ASSURANCE
1. Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine!  Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.
Refrain:  This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long; this is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.
2. Perfect submission, perfect delight, visions of rapture now burst on my sight; angels descending bring from above echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
3. Perfect submission, all is at rest; I in my Savior am happy and blest, watching and waiting, looking above, filled with his goodness, lost in his love.
11)  THE BLOOD WILL NEVER LOSE ITS POWER
1.  The blood that Jesus shed for me 'Way back on Calvary, The blood that gives me strength from day to day  It will never lose its power.
C:   It reaches to the highest mountain It flows to the lowest valley
The blood that gives me strength from day to day It will never lose its power
2.  It soothes my doubt and calms my fears, and it dries all my tears; The Blood that gives me strength from day to day it will never loose its power.
12)  CHRIST, THE LORD, IS RISEN TODAY
1.  Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!  Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!  Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!  Sing, ye heavens, and earth, reply, Alleluia!
2.  Love's redeeming work is done, Alleluia!  Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!  Lo! the Sun's eclipse is over, Alleluia!  Lo! He sets in blood no more, Alleluia!
3.  Vain the stone, the watch, the seal, Alleluia!  Christ hath burst the gates of hell, Alleluia!  Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia!  Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!
4  Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!  Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!  Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia!  Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!
5.  Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia!  Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!  Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!  Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!
6.  Hail, the Lord of earth and heaven, Alleluia!  Praise to Thee by both be given, Alleluia!  Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!  Hail, the resurrection day, Alleluia!
7.  King of glory, Soul of bliss, Alleluia!  Everlasting life is this, Alleluia! Thee to know, Thy power to prove, Alleluia!  Thus to sing and thus to love, Alleluia!
8.  Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!  Unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!  Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
Sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia!
9.  But the pains that He endured, Alleluia!  Our salvation have procured, Alleluia!  Now above the sky He's King, Alleluia!  Where the angels ever sing. Alleluia!
10.  Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!  Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!  Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia!  Suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia!
13)  THE CHURCH’S ONE FOUNDATION
  1. 1. The Church’s one foundation Is Jesus Christ her Lord, She is His new creation By water and the Word.  From heaven He came and sought her To be His holy bride; With His own blood He bought her And for her life He died.
  2. 2. She is from every nation, Yet one o’er all the earth; Her charter of salvation, One Lord, one faith, one birth; One holy Name she blesses, Partakes one holy food, And to one hope she presses, With every grace endued.
  3. 3. The Church shall never perish! Her dear Lord to defend, To guide, sustain, and cherish, Is with her to the end: Though there be those who hate her, And false sons in her pale, Against both foe or traitor She ever shall prevail.
  4. 4. Though with a scornful wonder Men see her sore oppressed, By schisms rent asunder, By heresies distressed: Yet saints their watch are keeping, Their cry goes up, “How long?”  And soon the night of weeping Shall be the morn of song!
  5. 5. ’Mid toil and tribulation, And tumult of her war, She waits the consummation Of peace forevermore; Till, with the vision glorious, Her longing eyes are blest, And the great Church victorious Shall be the Church at rest.
  6. 6. Yet she on earth hath union With God the Three in One, And mystic sweet communion With those whose rest is won, With all her sons and daughters Who, by the Master’s hand Led through the deathly waters, Repose in Eden land.
  7. 7. happy ones and holy!  Lord, give us grace that we Like them, the meek and lowly, On high may dwell with Thee: There, past the border mountains, Where in sweet vales the Bride  With Thee by living fountains Forever shall abide!
14)  COME, THOU ALMIGHTY KING
1. Come, thou Almighty King, help us thy name to sing, help us to praise.  Father, all glorious, o’er all victorious, come and reign over  us, Ancient of Days.
2  Come, thou Incarnate Word, gird on they mighty sword, our prayer attend.  Come, and they people bless, and give thy Word success; Spirit of holiness, on us descend.
3.  Come, Holy Comforter, thy sacred witness bear in this glad hour.  Thou who almighty art, now rule in every heart, and ne’er from us depart, Spirit of pow’r.
4.  To the great One in Three eternal praises be, hence evermore.  His sovereign majesty may we in glory see, and through eternity love and adore.
15)  COME, THOU FOUNT OF EVERY BLESSING
1.   Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace; streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it, mount of thy redeeming love.
2.   Hither to Thy love has blest me; Thou hast bro’t me to this place; And I know Thy hand will bring me safely home by Thy good grace. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; he, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood.
3.   O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my andering heart to thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here’s my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above.
16)  CROWN HIM WITH MANY CROWNS
1.  Crown him with many crowns, the Lamb upon his throne, Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own. Awake, my soul, and sing of him who died for thee, and hail him as thy matchless King through all eternity.
2. Crown him the Lord of life, who triumphed o'er the grave, and rose victorious in the strife for those he came to save. His glories now we sing, who died, and rose on high, who died, eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.
3. Crown him the Lord of peace, whose power a scepter sways from pole to pole, that wars may cease, and all be prayer and praise. His reign shall know no end, and round his pierced feet fair flowers of paradise extend their fragrance ever sweet.
4.  Crown him the Lord of love; behold his hands and side, those wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified. All hail, Redeemer, hail! For thou hast died for me;  thy praise and glory shall not fail throughout eternity.
17)  DOXOLOGY
Praise God from whom All blessings flow    Praise Him all creatures here below Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts Praise Father, Son & Holy Ghost Amen.
18)  FAIREST LORD JESUS
Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature,
O Thou of God and man the Son,
Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor,
Thou, my soul's glory, joy and crown.
2.  Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands,  Robed in the blooming garb of spring; Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer,
Who makes the woeful heart to sing.
3. Fair is the sunshine, Fairer still the moonlight, And all the twinkling starry host; Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer Than all the angels heaven can boast.
4. Beautiful Savior! Lord of all the nations! Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration,
Now and forever more be Thine.
19)  GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS
1.  Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not; As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
R: Great is Thy faithfulness Great is Thy faithfulness Morning by morn-ing new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand hath provided; Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.
2.  Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, Sun, moon and stars in their  courses above Join with all nature in  manifold witness To Thy great  faithfulness, mercy and love.
3.  Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide; Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside
20)  HOLY, HOLY, HOLY
1.  Holy, holy, holy!  Lord God Almighty!  Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee. Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty, God in three persons, blessed Trinity!
2.  Holy, holy, holy!  All the saints adore thee, casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee, which wert, & art, & evermore shalt be.
3.  Holy, holy, holy!  Though the darkness hide thee, though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see, only thou art holy; there is none beside thee, perfect in power, in love and purity.
4.  Holy, holy, holy!  Lord God Almighty! All thy works shall praise thy name, in earth and sky and sea. Holy, holy, holy!  Merciful and mighty, God in three persons, blessed Trinity.
20.1) HOW DEEP THE FATHER’S LOVE
How deep the Father’s love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
1     How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One, Bring many sons to glory
2     Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers
3    It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
4    I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
5     Why should I gain from His reward?  I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
21)  HOW GREAT THOU ART
1.  O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder, Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made; I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
R: Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art.  Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How great thou art, how great thou art!
2.  When through the woods, and forest glades I wander, And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.  When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur  And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.
3.  And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing; Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in; That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin.
4.  When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation, And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart. Then I shall bow, in humble adoration, And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"
22)  I SING THE MIGHTY POWER OF GOD
I sing the mighty power of God, that made the mountains rise, That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies. I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day; The moon shines full at God’s command, and all the stars obey.
2.  I sing the goodness of the Lord, who filled the earth with food, Who formed the creatures through the Word, and then pronounced them good.  Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed, where’er I turn my eye, If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky.
3.  There’s not a plant or flower below, but makes Thy glories known, And clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from Thy throne; While all that borrows life from Thee is ever in Thy care; And everywhere that we can be, Thou, God art present there.
23)  I WILL SING OF MY REDEEMER
1.  I will sing of my Redeemer, And His wondrous love to me; On the cruel cross He suffered, From the curse to set me free.
R: Sing, oh, sing of my Redeemer, With His blood He purchased me,
On the cross He sealed my pardon, Paid the debt, and made me free.

2.  I will tell the wondrous story, How my lost estate to save, In His boundless love and mercy, He the ransom freely gave.
3.  I will praise my dear Redeemer, His triumphant pow'r I'll tell, How the victory He giveth Over sin, and death, and hell.
4.  I will sing of my Redeemer, And His heav'nly love to me; He from death to life hath brought me, Son of God with Him to be.
24)  IMMORTAL, INVISIBLE
1.  Immortal, invisible, God only wise. In light inaccessible hid from our eyes, Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, Almighty victorious—Thy great name we praise.
2.  Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might; thy justice like mountains high soaring above thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
3.  To all, life thou givest, to both great and small; in all life thou livest, the true life of all; we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, and wither and perish, but naught changeth thee.
4.  Thou reignest in glory; thou dwellest in light; thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight; all laud we would render:  O help us to see ‘tis only the splendor of light hideth thee.
24.1) IN CHRIST ALONE
In Christ alone my hope is found;
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.  What heights of love, what depths of peace,  When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!  My comforter, my all in all—  Here in the love of Christ I stand.
2.  In Christ alone, Who took on flesh, Fullness of God in helpless babe!  This gift of love and righteousness, Scorned by the ones He came to save.  Till on that cross as Jesus died,  The wrath of God was satisfied;  For ev'ry sin on Him was laid— Here in the death of Christ I live.
3.  There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain;
Then bursting forth in glorious day,
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory,
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me;
For I am His and He is mine—
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
4.     No guilt in life, no fear in death—This is the pow'r of Christ in me; From life's first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.  No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home—
Here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand.
25)  IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL
1. When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul. Refrain: It is well, with my soul, It is well, it is well, with my soul.
2.  Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control, That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed His own blood for my soul.
3.  My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
4. For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live: If Jordan above me shall roll, No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.
5.  But, Lord, ’tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait, The sky, not the grave, is our goal; Oh, trump of the angel! Oh, voice of the Lord! Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul!
6. And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, The clouds be rolled back as a scroll; The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, Even so, it is well with my soul.
26)  JESUS PAID IT ALL
I hear the Savior say, “Thy strength indeed is small; Child of weakness, watch and pray, Find in Me thine all in all.”
R:  Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.
2.  For nothing good have I Whereby Thy grace to claim; I’ll wash my garments white In the blood of Calv’ry’s Lamb.
3.  And now complete in Him, My robe, His righteousness, Close sheltered ’neath His side, I am divinely blest.
4.  Lord, now indeed I find Thy pow’r, and Thine alone, Can change the leper’s spots And melt the heart of stone.
5.  When from my dying bed My ransomed soul shall rise, “Jesus died my soul to save,” Shall rend the vaulted skies.
6.  And when before the throne I stand in Him complete, I’ll lay my trophies down, All down at Jesus’ feet.
27)  JOYFUL, JOYFUL, WE ADORE THEE,
  1. 1. Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love; hearts unfold like flowers before thee, opening to the sun above.  Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away.  Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day!
2. All thy works with joy surround thee, earth and heaven reflect thy rays, stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise.  Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea, chanting bird and flowing fountain, call us to rejoice in thee.
3. Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest, well-spring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest!  Thou our Father, Christ our brother, all who live in love are thine; teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine.
4. Mortals, join the mighty chorus  which the morning stars began; love divine is reigning o'er us, binding all within its span.  Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife; joyful music leads us sunward,  in the triumph song of life.
28)  JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE,
R:  Just a closer walk with Thee, Grant it, Jesus, is my plea, Daily walking close to Thee, Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
1.  I am weak, but Thou art strong; Jesus, keep me from all wrong; I’ll be satisfied as long As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.
2.  Through this world of toil and snares, If I falter, Lord, who cares?   Who with me my burden shares? None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.
3.  When my feeble life is o’er, Time for me will be no more; Guide me gently, safely o’er To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.
28.1) LET ALL THINGS NOW LIVING
Let all things now living a song of thanksgiving   To God the Creator triumphantly raise,  Who fashioned and made us, protected and stayed us,
Who guideth us on to the end of our days.  His banners are o’er us, His light goes before us, A pillar of fire shining forth in the night,  ‘Til shadows have vanished and darkness is banished, as forward we travel from light into light.
His law He enforces: the stars in their courses,  The sun in His orbit, obediently shine;  The hills and the mountains, the rivers and fountains,
The deeps of the ocean proclaim Him divine,  We too should be voicing
our love and rejoicing, With glad adoration a song let us raise, ‘Til all things now living unite in  thanksgiving  To God in the highest, hosanna and praise.
29)  THE LOVE OF GOD
  1. 1. The love of God is greater far Than tongue or pen can ever tell; It goes beyond the highest star, And reaches to the lowest hell; The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win; His erring child He reconciled, And pardoned from his sin.
R: Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!  How measureless and strong!  It shall forevermore endure— The saints’ and angels’ song.
2.  When hoary time shall pass away, And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall, When men who here refuse to pray, On rocks and hills and mountains call, God’s love so sure, shall still endure,  All measureless and strong; Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—The saints’ and angels’ song.
3.  Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made,

I will cling to the old rugged cross,

Jesus Christ the risen one

And we can see that God you’re moving   A mighty river through the nations   And young and old will turn to Jesus
Fling wide your heavenly gates
Prepare the way of the risen Lord

Open up the doors and let the music play Let the streets resound with singing Songs that bring your hope Songs that bring your joy
Dancers who dance upon injustice

Did you feel the darkness tremble?
When all the saints join in one song
And all the streams flow as one river
To wash away our brokeness

And here we see that God you’re moving A time of Jubilee is coming
When young and old return to Jesus
Fling wide your heavenly gates
Prepare the way of the risen Lord

O! say, can you see, by the dawn's early  light, what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming: Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight, o'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming. 2. I have seen him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps, they have builded him an altar in the evening dews and damps. I can read his righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps, his day is marching on.
3. I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel, as ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace shall deal. Let the hero born of woman crush the serpent with His heel,  since God is marching on.
4. He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat, He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgement seat. Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! Be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on.
5. In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, with a glory in his bosom that transfigures you and me. As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free, while God is marching on.
F)  THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND (Arlo Guthrie)
This land is your land, this land is my land from California, to the New York Island, from the redwood forests, to the Gulfstream waters, this land was made for you and me.
1. As I went walking that ribbon of highway, I saw above me that endless skyway, I saw below me that golden valley, this land was made for you and me.
2. I roamed and rambled and followed my footsteps
to the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts, and all around me a voice was sounding, this land was made for you and me.
3. When the sun comes shining and I was strolling,
and the wheat-fields waving, and the dustclouds rolling, a voice was chanting and a fog was lifting,
this land was made for you and me.
G)  Home on the range
1. Oh, give me my home, where the buffalo roam, where the deer and the antelope play. Where seldom is heard a discouraging word, and the skies are not cloudy all day.
R: Home, home on the range,  where the deer and the antelope play.  Where seldom is heard a discouraging word, and the skies are not cloudy all day.
2. How often at night, when the heavens are bright, with the light from the glittering stars, have I stood there amazed, and asked as I gazed, if their glory exceeds that of ours.
3. Where the air is so pure, and the zephyrs so free, and the breezes so balmy and light, that I would not exchange my home on the range,
H)  WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN
Oh when the saints go marching in, Oh when the saints go marching in, Oh Lord I want to be in that number, Oh when the saints go marching in.
Oh when the sun refuses to shine, Oh when the sun refuses to shine, Oh Lord I want to be in that number, When the sun refuses to shine.
Oh When The Dead, In Christ Shall Rise, Oh When The Dead, In Christ Shall Rise, Oh Lord I Want To Be In That Number When The Dead, In Christ

O)  GRAND OE FLAG
You're a grand old flag, You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave. You're the emblem of The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave. Ev'ry heart beats true 'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.
You're a grand old flag, You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave. You're the emblem of The land I love. The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true 'neath the Red, White and Blue, Where there's never a boast or brag. Should auld acquaintance be forgot, Keep your eye on the grand old flag.
P)  STARS & STRIPES FOREVER
Hurrah for the flag of the free! May it wave as our standard forever, The gem of the land and the sea,
The banner of the right. Let despots remember the day When our fathers with mighty endeavor Proclaimed as they marched to the fray That by their might and by their right it waves forever.
2. On the shore, dimly seen,  through the mists of the deep where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes. What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, as it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, in full glory reflected, now shines on the stream. 'Tis the Star-spangled Banner, O! long may it wave -o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave
3. And where is that band who so vauntingly swore that the havoc of   war and the battle's confusion, a home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save,  the hireling and slave. From the terror of   flight or the gloom of the grave! And the Star-spangled Banner in triumph doth wave, o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
4. O! thus be it ever when free men shall stand between their loved homes and the foe's desolation. Bless'd with victory and peace, may our Heaven-rescued land praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation. Then conquer we must, for our cause it is just, and this be our motto -- "In God is our trust!"  And the Star-spangled Banner in triumph shall wave o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Q)  WHEN JOHNNY COMES HOME
When Johnny comes marching home again, Hurrah, hurrah! We'll give him a hearty welcome then, Hurrah, hurrah! The men will cheer, the boys will shout,
The ladies they will all turn out, And we'll all feel gay, when Johnny comes marching home.  The old church bell will peal with joy, Hurrah, hurrah!
To welcome home our darling boy, Hurrah, hurrah!  The village lads and lassies say,With roses they will strew the way, And we'll all feel gay, when Johnny comes marching home..  Get ready for the Jubilee, Hurrah, hurrah! We'll give the hero three times three, Hurrah, hurrah!
The laurel wreath is ready now, To place upon his loyal brow, And we'll all feel gay, when Johnny comes marching home.  Let love and friendship on that day, Hurrah, hurrah!
Their choicest treasures then display, Hurrah, hurrah!
And let each one perform some part, To fill with joy the warrior's heart, And we'll all feel gay, when Johnny comes marching home

Look away, look away, look away

SOME THOUGHTS ON WORSHIP
by Tuese C. Ahkiong, Director of Always Ready Ministries last updated 2-4-05
  1. Worship: To give honor, reverence, respect, homage or veneration.  2. Extreme devotion; intense love or adoration 3. To show dignity, worthiness, admiration, wonder and awe
  2. The chief end of man is to serve, (know, worship,) glorify, and enjoy God forever. (Westminster catechism)
  3. Love The Lord with all your heart, mind, soul and strength. Mk 12:30  Loving God with your entire being.
  4. Corum Deo: To live life before the face of God.  In the presence of God; Under the Authority of God; To the Honor and Glory of God.
  5. All of life is to be lived out for God’s Glory Alone: Soli Deo Gloria (To God Alone Be The Glory!)

Worship is the quickening of the conscience by the holiness of God; the feeding of the mind by the truth of God; the purging of the imagination by the beauty of God; the opening of the heart to the love of God; the devotion of the will to the purpose of God. (William Temple, Archbishop of Canterbury, 1942-44).
Worship is...
  1. For believers/ Christians only.
  2. Largely Responding to God for who He is, what He has done and what He has said.  God Initiates worship.  The emotions and the will can be more sincerely and intentionally directed toward God if the mind has been given the chance to recall, understand, or reflect on Truth.
  3. Intentionally Ascribing Great Reverence of who God is.  Acknowledgement of his Authority, Love, Power, Worthiness, Holiness, Greatness, Sovereignty, Majesty, Beauty...
  4. Adoration—Attributing to God the glory due His Name.
  5. Service—Living in and for Christ.
  6. Giving Offerings of Excellence to God—the sacrifice of praise, our lives, thanksgiving, gifts.
  7. First an inward Attitude of the heart that demonstrates humility, reverence and dependence (surrender/submission) upon Almighty God.  Second, worship flows outward into a deeply devoted life.
  8. Knowing God intimately through obedience to His Word.  Therefore, spiritual songs act as a teaching tool to reinforce the Scripture.
  9. A Foretaste of heaven.
  10. What we have been Designed to do; it is our Purpose.  It is the Will of God!
  11. An aspect of our Growing Fellowship with a personal God.
  12. What we Owe God.  It is the Glory Due His Name.  God receiving Justice (what He Deserves).
  13. God-Centered, God-Directed, God-Focused.
  14. The Lord is most glorified when we are most happy and completely satisfied in Jesus.  J.Piper
  15. Being a Christian Hedonist; one who lives for the pleasure and enjoyment of God.  J.Piper
  16. Seeing Jesus Christ crucified and risen and reigning and bearing your sin as the infinite treasure of your life.  J.Piper

Worship is paralleled with the physical relationship of a husband with his wife.  In the O.T., God calls idolatry- adultery.  In the N.T., the union in Eph 5 between a man and his wife is a model of the union of Christ and His Bride, the Church.  There is a very close connection between the parallels of the type of intimacy and oneness that takes place in marriage and the kind of oneness that is suppose to take place when people are having a love affair with God by expressing affection to Him in worship.

Hymns—help to be reflective on theology; they reinforce the knowledge and Truth of who God is, what He has done and said.
Praise Songs—function to have a person relax and enter into an atmosphere or closeness with God.
Individual, Private, Corporate and/or Public Worship is the act of glorifying God in His presence through psalms, hymns, praise and spiritual songs; through the reading and exposition of Scripture; through observance of the sacraments; and through individual and corporate living in holiness and service.

Results of Genuine Worship (Grudem’s Systematic Theology): a) We delight in God. b) God delights in us. c) We draw near to God. d) God draws near to us. e) God ministers to us. f) The Lord’s enemies flee. g) Unbelievers know they are in God’s Presence.

Ephesians 5:18-20  18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Colossians 3:15-17  15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
