KNOWING GOD
I went through the first 9 chapters of Jeremiah this week and thought I share some highlights on knowing and NOT knowing God.

1. Genesis4:1 And Adam KNEW Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
***Adam didn’t know Eve just intellectually, but intimately and sexually as a husband.
2. Luke 1:34 30 Then the angel said to her,“Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, YOU WILL CONCEIVE IN YOUR WOMB AND BRING FORTH A SON, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will giveHim the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, SINCE I DO NOT KNOW A MAN?”
***Mary is sharing the fact that she has not known a man intimately in a sexual manner.
3. Matthew7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I NEVER KNEW YOU: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
***Jesus is God and knows everything. He is omniscient. So, to not know someone does not mean He does not know about them. Knowing is being used in the sense that He does not know them intimately as His bride, sheep, people, chosen, elect….

4. Jeremiah1:4-5 Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I KNEW YOU, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
***God knows everything because He is God. He knows Jeremiah in an intimate sense. See Galatians 1:15-17
In the following verses except for 5:5, noticed how not knowing God is being in state of sin, rebellion, death, lies, and oppression:
5. Jeremiah2:8 The priests did not say,‘Where is the Lord?’ Those who handle the law DID NOT KNOW ME; the shepherds transgressed against me; the prophets prophesied by Baal and went after things that do not profit.
6. Jeremiah4:22 “For my people are foolish; THEY KNOW ME NOT; they are stupid children; they have no understanding. They are ‘wise’—in doing evil! But how to do good they know not.”
7. Jeremiah5:4 Then I said, “These are only the poor; they have no sense; FOR THEY DO NOT KNOW THE WAY OF THE LORD, the justice of their God.
8. Jeremiah5:5 I will go to the great and will speak to them, FOR THEY KNOW THE WAY OF THE LORD, the justice of their God.” But they all alike had broken the yoke; they had burst the bonds.
9. Jeremiah9:3 They bend their tongue like a bow; falsehood and not truth has grown strong in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and THEY DO NOT KNOW ME, declares the Lord.
10. Jeremiah9:6 Heaping oppression upon oppression, and deceit upon deceit, THEY REFUSE TO KNOW ME, declares the Lord.
Here is what one should boast and delight in:

Jeremiah 9:23-24 23Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; 24but LET HIM WHO BOASTS BOAST OF THIS, THAT HE UNDERSTANDS AND KNOWS ME, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the LORD.
12. Hosea 6.6 For I delight in loyalty rather than sacrifice, And in THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD rather than burnt offerings.
13. Matt11:27 " All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one KNOWS the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and ANYONE TO WHOM THE SON WILLS TO REVEAL HIM
***It is a Sovereign act of God by which a person comes to KNOW GOD. This is called God's Sovereign amazing grace.
14. John10:15 even as the Father KNOWS ME and I know the Father; and I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR THE SHEEP.
***The Father knows Jesus in the same intimacy Jesus lays down His life for His sheep.
15. John 17:1-3 Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give ETERNAL LIFE.”This is ETERNAL LIFE, that they may KNOW YOU, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
***Who gives eternal life? Who by His Sovereign Will and by His Grace enables a person to KNOW God?
16. 1 John 5:13[ This Is Written That You May Know ] These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so THAT YOU MAY KNOW that you have ETERNAL LIFE .
17. 1 John 5:20And we know that the Son of God has come, and HAS GIVEN US UNDERSTANDING SO THAT WE MAY KNOW HIM WHO IS TRUE; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ This is the true God and ETERNAL LIFE.
***Is it within a person to know God? Does not God give understanding to whomsoever He chooses to know Him?
