Friendship & Peer Pressure

Friendship & Peer Pressure

August 18, 2013 at 6:28pm
Here are some great verses on teaching about peer pressure and using God's wisdom to discern good and bad friendships.

I like to define a friend as someone with whom you enjoy their presence; you share common values and interests, and someone who seeks your highest good, your very best and simply energizes and blesses you.

1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”

Proverbs 13:20 Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.

Proverbs 16:28 A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends.

Proverbs 17:9 Whoever covers an offense seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends.

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Proverbs 18:24A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Proverbs 22:24 Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man,

Proverbs 27:6Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.

Ecclesiastes 4:9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! 11 Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? 12 And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

James 2:22-23 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says,“Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God.

James 4:4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friendof the world makes himself an enemy of God.

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

And while there's negative broken peeps out there that we can minister to, we can only try to encourage them so much before it is no longer beneficial. Negativity is a drain on the soul. I don't value negative peeps, in fact, I keep away from them like the plague. It's like someone bringing a stinking gross smelling rotten milk and maggot filled trash can into your living room and dumping it all over. But worse, they're dumping their trash of negativity, lies, false teaching into our heart, mind and soul. Scripture teaches us to discern such people and avoid them.

Romans 16:17 I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; AVOID THEM.

2 Timothy 3: 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. AVOID SUCH PEOPLE.

1 John 4:1 [ Test the Spirits ] Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
