Galatians 4:21-31 1st Century National Apostate JEWS were likened to Hagar in slavery to THE LAW
1st Century National Apostate Israel is likened to Hagar in slavery to the law
Notes on Galatians 4:21-31
21 Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not listen to the law? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons,
one by a slave woman [Hagar]
and one by a free woman. [Sarah]
23 But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, [Ishmael]
while the son of the free woman was born through promise. [Isaac]
24 Now this may be interpreted allegorically: these women are two covenants. [Old & New covenants]
One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar. 25 Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; [The Law, death]
she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, [1st century Apostate Jews who persecute Christians and murdered Yeshua]
for she is in slavery with her children. [she, present Jerusalem 1st century, is in slavery to death by the law]
26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother. [The church/ekklesia, she is born from God above.]
27 For it is written,“Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear; break forth and cry aloud, you who are not in labor! For the children of the desolate one will be more than those of the one who has a husband.” [The Blessing of God far exceeds anything!]
28 Now you, brothers, [The Galatian Christians]
like Isaac, are children of promise. [the elect remnant of covenant Israel]
29 But just as at that time [The time of Ishmael and Isaac]
he who was born according to the flesh [Ishmael]
persecuted
him who was born according to the Spirit, [Isaac]
so also it is now. [1st century apostate Jews are persecuting the ekklesia]
30 But what does the Scripture say?
“Cast out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman shall not inherit [Old Covenant/ Judaism is cast out. The kingdom is taken away from them and given to the True Israel of God, The Ekklesia Matthew 21:43]
with the son of the free woman.” [The Israel from above/ ekklesia]
31 So, brothers, we are not children of the slave [Old Covenant Israel]
but of the free woman. [Faith, Promise, Gospel, in Christ]
