THE TIMING OF THE RESURRECTION
by Tuese Ahkiong
- When does the Bible say it is was suppose to happen?
Daniel 12
“At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book. 2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall AWAKE, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 And those who are wise shall SHINE like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. 4 But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
5 Then I, Daniel, looked, and behold, two others stood, one on this bank of the stream and one on that bank of the stream. 6 And someone said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream, “How long shall it be till the end of these wonders?” 7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream; he raised his right hand and his left hand toward heaven and swore by him who lives forever that it would be for a time, times, and half a time, and that when the shattering of the power of the holy people comes to an end all these things would be finished. 8 I heard, but I did not understand. Then I said, “O my lord, what shall be the outcome of these things?” 9 He said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end. 10 Many shall purify themselves and make themselves white and be refined, but the wicked shall act wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but those who are wise shall understand.11 And from the time that the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that makes desolate is set up, there shall be 1,290 days. 12 Blessed is he who waits and arrives at the 1,335 days. 13 But go your way till the end. And you shall rest and shall stand in your allotted place at the end of the days.”
***the Jews were the Holy People of God within the context of Daniel. The resurrection mentioned here takes place when the power of the holy people was shattered. Their covenant with God symbolized by The Temple was the power of the holy people. The destruction of Jerusalem took place in 70 A.D. as Jesus said it would happen within “this generation” 1st century was when that power came to an end.
John 5:25 “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and IS NOW HERE, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. 27 And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
***Jesus said an hour is coming and NOW IS HERE (1st century) and then speaks of the resurrection of the good and evil which parallels Daniel. Remember the timing of Daniel’s resurrection is when the power of the holy people was destroyed. Jesus here in John 5 is speaking about this resurrection and mentions in The Olivet discourse that the Temple would be destroyed. This symbolized the identity of the holy people’s covenant with God; the law, the sacrificial system, the priesthood, heaven and earth (another name for the temple as to where God in heaven would come down and meet earth in the Holy of Holies with His Shekinah glory.
***Notice how the following 3 passages FULFILL Daniel 12:3
Philippians 2:14
Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you SHINE as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. 17 Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18 Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me.
Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light SHINE before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 13:43
Then the righteous will SHINE like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
Notice how Daniel 12:11 concerning the abomination that makes desolate is mentioned by Yeshua in Matthew 24:15-16 “So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
This was fulfilled as Yeshua said it would be in the first century generation, and specifically 70AD.
Matthew 24:34 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.
Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43, 47-50
24 He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, 25 but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. 26 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. 27 And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?’28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’”
***The Harvest would be at the end of the Old Covenant Age.
The Parable of the Weeds Explained
36 Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” 37 He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. 40 Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, 42 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will SHINE like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
***Jesus says that The Harvest is THE END OF THE AGE. The AGE that the New Testament was written in was the Old/First Covenant Age/World a.k.a. “This age.” It was the age of the first covenant that was in its last days and being harvested.
The Parable of the Net
47 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. 48 When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous 50 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
***Notice Jesus mentions the end of the age again with the righteous and evil being judged like in Daniel’s resurrection. This judgment is upon the covenant people.
John 11:24-26
24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
***The resurrection would occur on the last. The last day of what? The last day of the Old Covenant which was coming to an end in the first century "this generation" of Jesus. 70AD
Acts 10:40-42
40 but God raised him on the third day and made him to appear, 41 not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead.
Acts 17:18
18 Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also conversed with him. And some said, “What does this babbler wish to say?” Others said, “He seems to be a preacher of foreign divinities”—because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.
Acts 17:30-32
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, 31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.” 32 Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked. But others said, “We will hear you again about this.”
**Christ returned in 70AD and judged the Old Covenant world of Israel.
Notice how the YLT brings out the literal translation of these verses
Acts 23:6 ESV
6 Now when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, “Brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. It is with respect to the hope and the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial.”
Acts23:6 YLT and Paul having known that the one part are Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, cried out in the sanhedrim, `Men,brethren, I am a Pharisee -- son of a Pharisee -- concerning hope and rising again of dead men I am judged.'
**Paul, in his defense is stating that it is with respect TO THE HOPE AND THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD that he is on trial.
Acts 24:13-15 YLT
nor are they able to prove against me the things concerning which they now accuse me.
14`And I confess this to thee, that, according to the way that they call a sect, so serve Ithe God of the fathers, believing all things that in the law and the prophets have been written,
15having hope toward God, which they themselves also wait for, [that] there is
ABOUT TO BE A RISING AGAIN OF THE DEAD, BOTH OF THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE UNRIGHTEOUS.
Acts 24:13-15 ESV Neither can they prove to you what they now bring up against me. 14 But this I confess to you, that according to the Way, which they call a sect, I worship the God of our fathers, believing everything laid down by the Law and written in the Prophets, 15 having a hope in God, which these men themselves accept, that there will be a resurrection of both the just and the unjust.
**Paul, again, states having a hope towards God that there is ABOUT TO BE A RISING AGAIN OF THE DEAD, BOTH OF THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE UNRIGHTEOUS.
Acts24:20-21 YLT
or let these same say if they found any unrighteousness in me in my standing before the sanhedrim,
21except concerning this one voice, in which I cried, standing among them --Concerning a rising again of the dead I am judged to-day by you.'
Acts 24:20-21 ESV Or else let these men themselves say what wrongdoing they found when I stood before the council, 21 other than this one thing that I cried out while standing among them: ‘It is with respect to the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you this day.’”
**Paul states that it is with respect to the resurrection of the dead that he is on trial...
Acts24:24-25 YLT
And after certain days, Felix having come with Drusilla his wife, being a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith towardChrist, 25 and he reasoning concerning righteousness, and temperance, and THE JUDGMENT THAT IS ABOUT TO BE, Felix, having become afraid, answered, `For the present be going, and having got time, I will call for thee;'
Acts 24:24-25 ESV After some days Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, and he sent for Paul and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus. 25 And as he reasoned about righteousness and self-control and the coming judgment, Felix was alarmed and said, “Go away for the present. When I get an opportunity I will summon you.”
***Paul states that THE JUDGMENT IS ABOUT TO BE!
Acts26:6-8 YLT
and now for the hope of the promise made to the fathers by God, I have stood judged, 7 to which our twelve tribes, intently night and day serving, do hope to come, concerning which hope I am accused, king Agrippa, by the Jews; 8 why is it judged incredible with you, if God doth raise the dead?
Acts 26:6-8 ESV And now I stand here on trial because of my hope in the promise made by God to our fathers, 7 to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly worship night and day. And for this hope I am accused by Jews, O king! 8 Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead?
**Paul states that the hope of the promise made to the fathers by God, to which the twelve tribes hope to attain, the resurrection, was the reason he stood trial.
Acts 26:22-23 YLT
`Having obtained, therefore, help from God, till this day, I have stood witnessing both to small and to great, saying nothing besides the things that both the prophets and Moses spake of as ABOUT TO COME, 23 that the Christ is to suffer, whether first by a rising from the dead, he is about to proclaim light to the people and to the nations.'
Acts 26:22-23 ESV
22 To this day I have had the help that comes from God, and so I stand here testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would come to pass: 23 that the Christ must suffer and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles.”
***Paul said nothing besides the things that both the prophets and Moses spoke which were ABOUT TO COME.
Acts 28:20 ESV
20 For this reason, therefore, I have asked to see you and speak with you, since it is because of the hope of Israel that I am wearing this chain.”
Acts 28:20 YLT for this cause, therefore, I called for you to see and to speak with [you], for because of the hope of Israel with this chain I am bound.'
**The hope of Israel is the resurrection!
THE LAST DAY
38. John 6:41-59 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on THE LAST DAY. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on THE LAST DAY.”
41 So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 42 They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” 43 Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on THE LAST DAY. 45 It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— 46 not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father. 47 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on THE LAST DAY. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59 Jesus said these things in the synagogue, as he taught at Capernaum.
39. **In verses 39 & 40, Yeshua states that on THE LAST DAY, He will raise up (RESURRECTION) all that The Father has given Him and everyone who has looked upon Him and believes in Him. What is THE LAST DAY, THE LAST DAY of?
40. **In verse 44, Yeshua states that no one can come to Him unless The Father who sent Him draws that one. Yeshua will raise (RESURRECTION) this person up on THE LAST DAY. What is THE LAST DAY, THE LAST DAY of?
41. John 11:17-27 Now when Jesus came, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days.18 Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles off, 19 and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. 20 So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house.21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.22 But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on THE LAST DAY.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”
42. **Martha states that she knows that Lazarus will rise again in the resurrection on THE LAST DAY. She most likely got this teaching from Yeshua in John chapter 6. What is THE LAST DAY, THE LAST DAY of? The Old Testament, Daniel 12 makes mention that the resurrection would take place at the shattering of the power of the holy people. The holy people were God’s people at the time, Israel. Their power was their covenant with God symbolized by the temple, priesthood, Law, sacrificial system. This was shattered in 70 A.D.
43. John 12:44-50 And Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. 45 And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. 46 I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. 47 If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. 48 The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on THE LAST DAY. 49 For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me.”
44. **Yeshua states that those who rejects Him and do not receive His words have a judge and that His words will judge that person on THE LAST DAY. What is THE LAST DAY, THE LAST DAY of? The Old Covenant Age of Israel
The Resurrection is included in Revelation.
Revelation 11:18 And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to reward Your bond-servants the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name, the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”
**The Judgment was promised by Christ to fall in the first century THIS GENERATION:
Matthew 23:35-36so that upon you may fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36 Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.
Revelation 20:5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection.
Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.
*Does QUICKLY, SOON, NEAR, ABOUT TO, AT HAND, LAST HOUR, SHORTLY
mean 2000 plus year detached from the audience who first received the message?
If God wants people to know that something will happen QUICKLY, SOON, NEAR, ABOUT TO, AT HAND, LAST HOUR, or SHORTLY what language would He then use?
. Rev. 1:1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants THE THINGS THAT MUST SOON TAKE PLACE. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,
* HOW LONG IS SOON?
Rev. 1:3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, FOR THE TIME IS NEAR.
*THE TIME IS NEAR FOR WHO?
The things in The Book of Revelation are said to be near, soon, quickly, soon, at hand TO those who the book was written to v.4.
1.Rev.1.4 John, To the seven churches in the province of Asia: Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits[a] before his throne,
WAS THE BOOK OF REVELATION WRITTEN TO 21ST CENTURY CHRISTIANS? NO.
Rev. 1.7 Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even THOSE WHO PIERCED HIM and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.
*ARE THOSE WHO PIERCED JESUS STILL ALIVE? DOES THIS TELL YOU SOMETHING ABOUT THE TIMING OF JESUS COMING IN THE CLOUDS?
Rev 1:9-11 I, John, your brother and partner IN THE TRIBULATION and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet, 11 saying, “Write in a book what you see, and SEND IT TO THE SEVEN CHURCHES: to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”
Rev. 22:10 And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near.”
Note the contrast between the angel's words to Daniel and those of the angel to John. Both writings portray the end times. Daniel's were written well before the events themselves and were therefore to be sealed until they began . . . and yet John's writing on the same topic was NOT TO BE SEALED - Why? Because the time was NEAR.
Rev. 22:6 And he said to me, "These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants WHAT MUST SOON TAKE PLACE."
Rev. 22:7 "And behold, I AM COMING SOON. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book."
**Daniel is told to seal up the vision for the distant future and the time of the end. John is told not to seal the prophecy because THE TIME WAS NEAR for those events to be fulfilled.
Dan 8:26 “The vision of the evenings and mornings that has been given you is true, but SEAL UP THE VISION, FOR IT CONCERNS THE DISTANT FUTURE.”
Dan 12:1-4, 9“At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book. 2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.3 And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. 4 But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
9 He said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end.
Rev. 22:10 And he said to me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, FOR THE TIME IS NEAR.
Rev. 22:12 “Behold, I AM COMING QUICKLY.”
Rev. 22:20 “Yes, I AM COMING QUICKLY.”
*IS SOON AND NEAR LONGER THAN 2000 YEARS? DOES I AM COMING QUICKLY MEAN HE’LL BE DELAYED FOR 2000 PLUS YEARS?
I will deal with 1 Corinthians 15 later. Remember, I'm just dealing with the timing which sticks the RESURRECTION in the 1st century generation.
Just a question,no inference. You stated Christ returned in ad 70? Are you referring to the judgement of Jerusalem or His actually returning in ad 70?
ReplyDeleteYes, that is correct.
