Zacharias knew Jesus came for Israel when he said…
“Now his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and PROPHESIED, saying: “Blessed is the Lord GOD OF ISRAEL, For He has VISITED and REDEEMED HIS PEOPLE, And has raised up a horn of SALVATION FOR US In the house of His servant David, To give KNOWLEDGE OF SALVATION to HIS PEOPLE BY THE REMISSION OF THEIR SINS, So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his MANIFESTATION TO ISRAEL.” (Luke 1:67-69,77,80)
The emphasis was always for Jesus to seek the lost sheep of Israel, to gather the elect (Matt 24:31, 2 Thess 2:1) remnant from out of the nations, which were descendants of the tribes of Israel. Here, see for yourself. Jesus came to redeem his people.

And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet blast, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

The emphasis was always Israel, not non-Israelites. Jesus himself said...
Mat 15:24 He answered, “I was sent ONLY to the lost sheep of the house OF ISRAEL.”
He told the disciples....
Mat 10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of OF ISRAEL.
In the bible, only Israelites were referred to as sheep. In the context of John 10, the sheep were Jews. The “other sheep” were non-Jewish descendants of the tribes of Israel who were dispersed among the nations.
Redemption was for those under the law.
Gal 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Only Israel had and was under the law.
Psa 147:19 He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and rules to Israel. 20 He has not dealt thus with any other nation; they do not know his rules. Praise the LORD!
Rom 9:3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh

and the promises.
Nobody today was ever under ancient Israel’s law. Therefore, nobody has been redeemed or even needed redemption since AD70. Only the children of the "fathers" had the promise to be called back into a covenant relationship during the last days.
The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the LORD drives you. [30] When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the LATTER DAYs you will return to the LORD your God and listen to His voice. [31] For the LORD your God is a compassionate God; He will not fail you nor destroy you nor forget the covenant with your fathers which He swore to them. (Deuteronomy 4:27,30-31 NASB)
According to Acts 2:16-17 and Heb 1:2, the latter days were in the first century.
Acts 2:16-17
but this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:

‘And it shall be in the LAST DAYS,’ God says,
‘That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind;
And your sons and your daughters will prophesy,
And your young men will see visions,
And your old men will have dreams;
Hebrews 1:2
in these LAST DAYS has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom He also made the world.
Paul said that Jesus came to redeem those under the law. That was only ancient Jews and Israelites under its curse. Jesus himself said that he came to save his people. We are not his people. Israel was his people. In other words, those he came for were those he was sent to. That was his people, ISRAEL, not us.
Post-AD70 Christianity is a hijacked redemptive narrative that has convinced people who were never part of the story that they are “His people”. After the real Christianity ended along with the need for the gospel, first century Greek cultured people misappropriated bits and pieces of a redemptive narrative meant for old covenant Israel, adapted it to their Greek culture and created a personality cult of their own. Today’s fake Christianity is the result of that error.
Who did Jesus die for? THE COVENANT WORLD OF ISRAEL, not the entire planet. Even Jesus’ enemies knew who he would die for, and it wasn’t the entirety of humanity.
Joh 11:51-52 He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation
52 and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.

James 1:1 KJV
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
Again, who were the children of God scattered abroad? The scriptures repeatedly make the prediction that the descendants of the tribes of Israel would be scattered throughout the nations :"(Deut 4:27, 28; 30:1; Jer 30:11; Dan 9:7; Micah 5:7, 8 ) and that in the last days they would be regathered, leaving none behind :"(Isa 11:11-12; Jer 16:14-15; 23:3-8; 31:10; Ezek 11:17-19; 39:28; Zeph 3:20). Non-Israelites aren’t in view.
Deuteronomy 4:27-28
The Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the Lord drives you. 28 There you will serve gods, the work of human hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear, nor eat nor smell anything.
Deuteronomy 30:1
“So it will be when all of these things have come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have placed before you, and you call them to mind in all the nations where the Lord your God has scattered you,

And He will keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock.”
Ezekiel 11:17-19
Therefore say, ‘This is what the Lord God says: “I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you from the countries among which you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.”’ 18 When they come there, they will remove all its detestable things and all its abominations from it. 19 And I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. Ezekiel 39:28

Says the Lord.
We also see from verses like Heb 9:14-15, that Jesus died for those who sinned under the first covenant. In the first century, that was only Israelites.

how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
15 Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems THEM from the TRANSGRESSIONS COMMITTED UNDER THE FIRST COVENANT.
Verses suggesting Jesus died for the whole world (kosmos) and that he took away the sins of the world (kosmos) are referring to the covenant world of Israel, the old covenant religious system and temple community that had been under the curse of the law. Paul said in Galatians 4:5 that Jesus came to redeem those under the law. Only covenant people and later, Israelites had and were under the law. That’s not anyone today. If you believe Jesus died for you, you’ve been duped.
