OMEN in the Bible

OMEN

is generally defined as

a sign, phenomenon, or event interpreted as foretelling the future, closely associated with divination and superstition. While ancient cultures used omens to predict events, the Bible strictly prohibits seeking them (Leviticus 19:26, Deuteronomy 18:10), commanding believers to trust in God’s sovereignty rather than superstitious signs.

1.     Leviticus 19:26  “‘Do not eat any meat with the blood still in it. “‘Do not practice DIVINATION or seek OMENS.

2.     Numbers 23:23  There is no DIVINATION against Jacob, no evil OMENS against Israel. It will now be said of Jacob and of Israel, ‘See what God has done!’

3.     Deuteronomy 18:10  Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices DIVINATION or sorcery, interprets OMENS, engages in WITCHCRAFT,

4.     2 Kings 17:17  They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire. They practiced DIVINATION and sought OMENS and sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing his anger.

5.     2 Kings 21:6  He sacrificed his own son in the fire, practiced DIVINATION, sought OMENS, and consulted mediums and SPIRITISTS. He did much evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing his anger.

6.     2 Chronicles 33:6  He sacrificed his children in the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, practiced DIVINATION and WITCHCRAFT, sought OMENS, and consulted mediums and SPIRITISTS. He did much evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing his anger.

7.     Ezekiel 21:21  For the king of Babylon will stop at the fork in the road, at the junction of the two roads, to seek an OMEN: He will cast lots with arrows, he will consult his idols, he will examine the liver.

8.     Ezekiel 21:23  It will seem like a false OMEN to those who have sworn allegiance to him, but he will remind them of their guilt and take them captive.
