The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment

JONAH 1:1-2

1 The word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, the great city, and cry out against it, because their wickedness has come up before Me.”

Matthew 12:38-42

38 Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”

39 He answered, “A WICKED AND ADULTEROUS GENERATION asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with THIS GENERATION and CONDEMN IT; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now something greater than Jonah is here. 42 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with THIS GENERATION and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here.

Do Israelites preach the gospel to pagans?

NO!

-Ninevites weren’t repenting because they had violated the law of Moses. They were never under YHWH’s covenant law. They simply repented of their violation of being assholes to YHWH’s chosen people!

The main point is differentiating between what God did to foreign nations in judgment verses the final judgment when the twelve tribes would rise and stand before the throne. Two completely different concepts.

God wiped away nations and threatened to destroy nations (such as Nineveh) mostly because of their dealings with His people Israel, the “apple of his eye” and because of the promise to Abraham that he would bless those who blessed him and curse those who cursed him. God through Moses also told the Israelites many times that he would protect them and annihilate peoples and strong nations for their sake.

So most times it has to do with that. Nineveh is no different. Especially considering it was the capital of Assyria who took thousands of Israelites captive in 722 BC.

But the main point is that this wasn’t God saying “Hey Ninevites, repent and receive eternal life.”

No. It was God saying “change your vile and harsh ways or I’ll crush your ass!” Totally apart from Israel’s salvation narrative!

And that’s the main thing...

Israel’s law/ curse/ salvation story is totally central TO THEM (Israel) and totally separate from all these other details that we see to God threatening pagans with judgment.

YHWH told King Nebuchadnezzar to change and if he did, he would “allow him to prosper longer.” God prospered his ass but also made him eat grass!

Same idea with Nineveh!

God did interact with pagans on some level yes. This is not denied. Israel is the central character in the Bible next to YHWH.

Redemption, salvation and the promises are limited to God’s elect of Israel.

Luke 11:29-32 NIV

29 As the crowds increased, Jesus said, “This is a WICKED GENERATION. It asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah. 30 For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of Man be to THIS GENERATION. 31 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the people of THIS GENERATION and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom; and now something greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with THIS GENERATION and condemn it, FOR THEY REPENTED AT THE PREACHING OF JONAH; AND NOW SOMETHING GREATER THAN JONAH IS HERE.

The generation that Christ spoke to were Israelites living in Jerusalem 30-70AD, 40 years. And they were wicked mother-fuckers! They had the sinless Prince of Peace in their midst preaching The Gospel of Peace and they MURDERED him on a cross!

Jonah was sent to preach judgment to Nineveh and they repented and were saved from The Almighty wiping their asses off the face of the earth.

So how did the men of Nineveh rise up at the judgment in CONDEMNATION of that generation (30-70) of Israelis? In what sense did they stand up? Were the Ninevites included in the Resurrection? Nope!

Smucks like Jonah and Solomon proclaimed God’s Word and people listened! Christ, THE KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS is FAR GREATER than Solomon, Jonah and anyone else who has ever lived and these rebellious Israeli mother fuckers showed Christ total DISRESPECT and REJECTION of His preaching!!! This is how the men of Nineveh stood up at the judgment in that generation (30-70AD) of Israelis and CONDEMNED THEM; Ninevites OBEYED THE WORD OF GOD AND THEY REPENTED and a pagan Queen LISTENED to the wisdom of Solomon which came from God. Many Israelites in that last generation (30-70AD) REJECTED God's Word to their SHAME and TREASON, DID NOT REPENT and also MURDERED THE SINLESS SON OF GOD and PRINCE OF PEACE! The testimony is scripture reports Nineveh repenting and Israel not!

This is a big slap in God's face because Jonah who hated Ninevites ends up going to Ninevites and preaches to them and they repent! A pagan Queen listens to Solomon. YHWH’s own people give Him a BIG F-U!

Christ, The Apostles and Disciples preached to that wicked and adulterous generation of Israelis! Many were saved by GOD’s amazing grace and others ate the FULL WRATH OF GOD even asking for responsibility of Christ's blood death to be on them and their children.

YHWH said “Amen!” and unleashed WRATH on them to where they even ate their kids!

Matthew 16:1-4

16 The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.

2 He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ 3 and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. 4 A WICKED AND ADULTEROUS GENERATION looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.

Nineveh’s actions testified against the wicked and adulterous Israelite generation (30-70AD). The Ninevites conducted themselves wisely and properly by repenting at the preaching of Jonah and by not even being the holy people of God, they testified against “The People of God, Israel, that rejected the preaching of Their Messiah and His Disciples!”

Nineveh’s actions were brought up in the judgment to testify against Israel for being a wicked dumbass unfaithful whore! Thus, Scripture calling Israel a wicked and adulterous generation (30-70AD).
