The following passages are some accounts in Scripture where witchcraft, necromancy, fortune-telling, child sacrifice and similar pagan occult practices are mentioned. The Bible is written in the context of pagan cultures surrounding YHWH’s people. Paganism is filled with all sorts of gods of nature, animals, plants, spirits, energies, powers, celestial bodies… The pagan worldview of the Egyptians, Canaanites, Moabites, Greeks, Romans, Babylonians, Assyrians and so forth viewed the ultimate questions of man different from the Christian worldview.
Questions such as:
ORIGIN - Where did universe and man come from? What is man? Does God or gods exists? Did the universe create itself? Is the universe an illusion or dream? Does something exist?
REALITY - Is everything physical? Are we in a dream, illusion, a Matrix? Is there are spiritual realm? Does heaven exist? hell?
PURPOSE - What is the purpose or meaning of man or for man? Why are we here? What must one do to live the most happiest fulfilled meaningful well lived life?
KNOWLEDGE - How does one know that he knows anything? What is Truth? Is Truth relative?
MORALITY - How should one live? How should one treat others?
CONDITION - Why are we the way we are? Why are we dying? Is this existence all there is?
SALVATION - What must one do to be right, transcend, attain heaven/ self-actualization, peace? Can man live forever?
DEATH/ FUTURE - Is there life after physical death? Heaven? Hell? What comes after death? Can one know about the future?
Deuteronomy 18:9-14
9 “When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, be very careful NOT TO IMITATE THE DETESTABLE CUSTOMS of the nations living there.10 For example, NEVER SACRIFICE YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER AS A BURNT OFFERING. And do not let your people practice FORTUNE-TELLING, or use SORCERY, or INTERPRET OMENS, or engage in WITCHCRAFT, 11 or CAST SPELLS, or function as MEDIUMS or PSYCHICS, or CALL FORTH THE SPIRITS OF THE DEAD. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the Lord your God will drive them out ahead of you. 13 But you must be blameless before the Lord your God. 14 THE NATIONS YOU ARE ABOUT TO DISPLACE CONSULT SORCERERS AND FORTUNE-TELLERS, BUT THE LORD YOUR GOD FORBIDS YOU TO DO SUCH THINGS.”
YHWH instructs His People NOT to learn the way of the pagans:
Child sacrifice – killing a child as an offering to a pagan god to appease it, gain favor.
Fortune-Telling/ Psychics/ Witchcraft/ Medium/ Sorcerer/ Interpret Omens – one foretells fortune, future, curses, casts spells, reads thoughts, contacts spirits…
Communicating with the dead -Necromancy
26 “Do not eat meat that has not been drained of its blood. “DO NOT PRACTICE FORTUNE-TELLING OR WITCHCRAFT.
31 “DO NOT DEFILE YOURSELVES BY TURNING TO MEDIUMS OR TO THOSE WHO CONSULT THE SPIRITS OF THE DEAD. I am the Lord your God.
**These were YHWH’s instruction to His people when entering the promise land.
Leviticus 20:1-6, 27
The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Give the people of Israel these instructions, which apply both to native Israelites and to the foreigners living in Israel.
“IF ANY OF THEM OFFER THEIR CHILDREN AS A SACRIFICE TO MOLECH, THEY MUST BE PUT TO DEATH. The people of the community must stone them to death. 3 I myself will turn against them and cut them off from the community, because they have defiled my sanctuary and brought shame on my holy name by offering their children to Molech. 4 AND IF THE PEOPLE OF THE COMMUNITY IGNORE THOSE WHO OFFER THEIR CHILDREN TO MOLECH AND REFUSE TO EXECUTE THEM, 5 I MYSELF WILL TURN AGAINST THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES AND WILL CUT THEM OFF FROM THE COMMUNITY. THIS WILL HAPPEN TO ALL WHO COMMIT SPIRITUAL PROSTITUTION BY WORSHIPING MOLECH.
6 “I WILL ALSO TURN AGAINST THOSE WHO COMMIT SPIRITUAL PROSTITUTION BY PUTTING THEIR TRUST IN MEDIUMS or IN THOSE WHO CONSULT THE SPIRITS OF THE DEAD. I will cut them off from the community.
27 “MEN AND WOMEN AMONG YOU WHO ACT AS MEDIUMS OR WHO CONSULT THE SPIRITS OF THE DEAD MUST BE PUT TO DEATH BY STONING. They are guilty of a capital offense.”
Spiritual prostitution or spiritual adultery against YHWH by worshipping other gods. Child sacrifice to Molech (same Molech that Hilary Clinton sacrificed a “chicken” to!), trusting Mediums, consulting the spirits of the dead is spiritual idolatry/adultery!
REBELLION IS AS SINFUL AS WITCHCRAFT, and STUBBORNNESS AS BAD AS WORSHIPING IDOLS.So because you have rejected the command of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.”
*King Saul was rebellious and stubborn and did not obey the command of The Lord!
1 Samuel 28:7-19
7 Saul then said to his advisers, “FIND A WOMAN WHO IS A MEDIUM, so I can go and ask her what to do.”
His advisers replied, “There is A MEDIUM AT ENDOR.”
8 So Saul disguised himself by wearing ordinary clothing instead of his royal robes. Then he went to the woman’s home at night, accompanied by two of his men.
“I have to talk to a man who has died,” he said. “Will you call up his spirit for me?”
9 “Are you trying to get me killed?” the woman demanded. “You know that SAUL HAS OUTLAWED ALL THE MEDIUMS AND ALL WHO CONSULT THE SPIRITS OF THE DEAD. WHY ARE YOU SETTING A TRAP FOR ME?”
10 But Saul took an oath in the name of the Lord and promised, “As surely as the Lord lives, nothing bad will happen to you for doing this.”
11 Finally, the woman said, “Well, whose spirit do you want me to call up?”
“Call up Samuel,” Saul replied.
12 When the woman saw Samuel, she screamed, “You’ve deceived me! You are Saul!”
13 “Don’t be afraid!” the king told her. “What do you see?”
“I see a god coming up out of the earth,” she said.
14 “What does he look like?” Saul asked.
“He is an old man wrapped in a robe,” she replied. Saul realized it was Samuel, and he fell to the ground before him.
15 “Why have you disturbed me by calling me back?” Samuel asked Saul.
“Because I am in deep trouble,” Saul replied. “The Philistines are at war with me, and GOD HAS LEFT ME and won’t reply by prophets or dreams. So I have called for you to tell me what to do.”
16 But Samuel replied, “Why ask me, since THE LORD HAS LEFT YOU and HAS BECOME YOUR ENEMY? 17 The Lord has done just as he said he would. He has torn the kingdom from you and given it to your rival, David. 18 The Lord has done this to you today because you refused to carry out his fierce anger against the Amalekites. 19 What’s more, the Lord will hand you and the army of Israel over to the Philistines tomorrow, and YOU AND YOUR SONS WILL BE HERE WITH ME. The Lord will bring down the entire army of Israel in defeat.”
Saul seeks a Medium and those who consult the spirits of the dead. YHWH puts him to death.
1 Chronicles 10:13
13 So Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord. He failed to obey the Lord’s command, and HE EVEN CONSULTED A MEDIUM 14 instead of asking the Lord for guidance. So the Lord killed him and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.
Saul sought a medium, was unfaithful and disobedient to YHWH and was put to death.
King Joram demanded, “Do you come in peace, Jehu?” Jehu replied, “How can there be peace as long as THE IDOLATRY AND WITCHCRAFT OF YOUR MOTHER, JEZEBEL, ARE ALL AROUND US?”
Jehu, the servant of the Lord who was just anointed King, avenged YHWH’s people by putting the witch Jezebel to death for her witchcraft.
Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years. 2 He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, following the detestable practices of the pagan nations that the Lord had driven from the land ahead of the Israelites. 3 He REBUILT THE PAGAN SHRINES his father, Hezekiah, had broken down. HE CONSTRUCTED ALTARS FOR THE IMAGES OF BAAL AND SET UP ASHERAH POLES. HE ALSO BOWED BEFORE ALL THE POWERS OF THE HEAVENS AND WORSHIPED THEM.
4 HE BUILT PAGAN ALTARS IN THE TEMPLE OF THE LORD, the place where the Lord had said, “My name will remain in Jerusalem forever.” 5 HE BUILT THESE ALTARS FOR ALL THE POWERS OF THE HEAVENSIN BOTH COURTYARDS OF THE LORD’S TEMPLE. 6 MANASSEH ALSO SACRIFICED HIS OWN SONS IN THE FIRE IN THE VALLEY OF BEN-HINNOM. He practiced SORCERY, DIVINATION, AND WITCHCRAFT, AND HE CONSULTED WITH MEDIUMS AND PSYCHICS. He did much that was evil in the Lord’s sight, arousing his anger.
Manesseh was involved in child sacrifice to Ben-Hinnom, asherah poles, worshipped the heavens, practiced sorcery, divination, witchcraft, and consulted mediums and psychics.
2 Kings 23:24
24 JOSIAH ALSO GOT RID OF THE MEDIUMS AND PSYCHICS, THE HOUSEHOLD GODS, THE IDOLS, AND EVERY OTHER KIND OF DETESTABLE PRACTICE, BOTH IN JERUSALEM AND THROUGHOUT THE LAND OF JUDAH. He did this in obedience to the laws written in the scroll that Hilkiah the priest had found in the Lord’s Temple.
Well, both these things will come upon you in a moment: widowhood and the loss of your children. Yes, these calamities will come upon you, despite all YOUR WITCHCRAFT AND MAGIC.
YHWH is pronouncing Judgment upon Babylon for her witchcraft and magic
Acts 8:9-11
9 A man named Simon had been A SORCERER there for many years, amazing the people of Samaria and claiming to be someone great. 10 Everyone, from the least to the greatest, often spoke of him as “the Great One—the Power of God.” 11 They listened closely to him because for a long time he had astounded them with his magic.
20 But the people who did not die in these plagues still refused to repent of their evil deeds and turn to God. They continued to worship demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood—idols that can neither see nor hear nor walk! 21 And they did not repent of their murders or THEIR WITCHCRAFT or their sexual immorality or their thefts.
“But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, THOSE WHO PRACTICE WITCHCRAFT, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
