Genesis 1:14-18
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. 16 And GOD MADE THE TWO GREAT LIGHTS—the greater light to rule the day and THE LESSER LIGHT TO RULE THE NIGHT—and the stars. 17 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
** The moon is the lesser light of the two lights that God made in this context.
**The following passages are apocalyptic descriptions yet they demonstrate the moon being its own light source.
For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be dark at its rising, and THE MOON WILL NOT SHED ITS LIGHT.
Moreover, THE LIGHT OF THE MOON will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day when the Lord binds up the brokenness of his people, and heals the wounds inflicted by his blow.
The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor FOR BRIGHTNESS SHALL THE MOON GIVE YOU LIGHT; but the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.
Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for light by day and THE FIXED ORDER OF THE MOON AND THE STARS FOR LIGHT BY NIGHT, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar— the Lord of hosts is his name:
When I blot you out, I will cover the heavens and make their stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and THE MOON SHALL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT.
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
“But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, andTHE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT,
And the city has no need of sun or MOON TO SHINE ON IT, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.
He made THE MOON TO MARK THE SEASONS; the sun knows its time for setting.
**The sun, moon and stars operate as a clock above the earth to give the time, date, month, seasons...
Heliocentric folk say that the moon gets its light from the sun. Have you ever seen a beam of sunlight shining upon the moon?
