The equator passes through 13 countries, including some that are entirely on the equator and others that only have a portion of their territory on the equator:
- Ecuador: Located in the top western corner of South America, Ecuador is named after the equator.
- Kenya: A country on the equator.
- Somalia: A country on the equator.
- Colombia: A country with a portion of its territory on the equator.
- Brazil: A country with a portion of its territory on the equator.
- Congo: A country with a portion of its territory on the equator.
- Indonesia: A country with a portion of its territory on the equator.
- Kiribati: A country with a portion of its territory on the equator, but the landmass does not touch the equator itself.
- Maldives: A country with a portion of its territory on the equator, but the landmass does not touch the equator itself.
- Uganda: A landlocked country in East Africa that lies astride the equator.
- São Tomé and Príncipe: An island country in Central Africa located on the equator in the Gulf of Guinea.
- Gabon: A country on the equator.
- Democratic Republic of the Congo: A country on the equator.
