THE END OF THE AGE & the
age to come/ this age & that age
By Tuese Ahkiong
What “AGE” (aeon) was
Jesus born into? He was born under the
law in the Old Covenant Age.
Galatians 4:4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth
his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to
redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
What AGE was coming to an
end? The Old Covenant Age of Israel was in its LAST DAYS when the NT writers penned Scripture.
1. Matthew 13:39 and the enemy who sowed them is the
devil. The harvest is the END
OF THE AGE, and the reapers are angels.
**What age was coming to
an end? The Old Covenant.
2. Matthew 13:40 Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with
fire, so will it be at the END
OF THE AGE.
**What age was coming to
an end? The Old Covenant.
3. Matthew 13:49 So it will be at the END OF THE AGE. The
angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous
**What age was coming to
an end? The Old Covenant.
4. Matthew 24:3 As he sat
on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him
privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be
the sign of your coming and of the END OF THE AGE?”
**What age’s end were the
disciples asking Jesus about? They were
asking about the end of the Old Covenant Age.
Jesus prophesied about the destruction of Jerusalem's Temple which represented
the end of the law, end of the priesthood, end of the sacrificial system, end
of the old covenant age.
5. Matthew 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I have
commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the END OF THE AGE.”
**What age was Jesus in
when He said this? Jesus was in the Old
Covenant Age. see my article on "The Great Commission" fulfilled in the 1st century.
6. 1 Corinthians
10:11 Now these things
happened to them as an example, but they were written
down for our instruction, on whom the END OF THE AGEs has come.
**Is not Paul stating
that the Old Testament Prophets spoke of his days and that the age he was in
was coming to an end? Yes
7. Hebrews 9:26 for then he would have had to suffer
repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it
is, he has appeared once for all at the END OF THE AGEs to put away sin by the
sacrifice of himself.
**When does Jesus
appear? Old Covenant Age. He was born under the law.
**At the end of what age?
At the end of the Old Covenant Age.
THE AGE TO COME
What was the age to
come? The New Covenant Age which has no
end, where one receives eternal life through The Gospel.
8. Matthew 12:32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of
Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will
not be forgiven, either in THIS AGE or in THE AGE TO COME.
9. Mark 10:30 who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time,
houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with
persecutions, and in THE AGE TO
COME eternal life.
10.
Luke 18:30 who will not receive many times more in this time,
and in THE AGE TO COME
eternal life.”
11.
Ephesians 1:21 far above all rule and authority and power and
dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in THIS AGE but
also in THE ONE TO COME.
12.
Hebrews 6:5 and have tasted the goodness of the
word of God and the powers of THE
AGE TO COME,
Luke 20:34 And Jesus said to them, “The sons of
this age marry and are given in marriage, 35 but those who are considered
worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead
neither marry nor are given in marriage, 36 for they cannot die anymore,
because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the
resurrection.
"This
Age"
refers to the Old Covenant order and the way the old covenant kingdom expanded
was primarily through physical child birth. See levirate marriages. Those who
attain to "that age" or come into the New Covenant
order need not to marry because The Kingdom no longer expands through physical
child birth but through the preaching of The Gospel. This is how Eunuchs can be
fruitful. Cool, huh!
Isaiah
56:
3 Let
not the foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord say, “The Lord will surely separate me from his
people”; and let not the eunuch say,
“Behold, I am a dry tree.” 4
For thus says the Lord: “To the eunuchs
who keep my Sabbaths, who choose the things that please me and hold fast my
covenant, 5 I will give in my house and within my walls a monument and
a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name
that shall not be cut off.
Acts
8, The Story of Ethiopian Eunuch FULFILLS this Isaiah prophecy.
Matt 22:29 But Jesus answered them, “You are
wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30
For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are
like angels in heaven. 31 And as for the resurrection of the
dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: 32 ‘I am the God of
Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the
dead, but of the living.” 33 And when the crowd heard it, they were astonished
at his teaching.
Notice how in “the age to come”
there is 1) the new world, 2) the Son of Man sitting on his glorious throne not
in Jerusalem but in Heaven, 3) the judging of the tribes of Israel, 4) eternal
life, 5) an inheritance/ rewarding, 6) the resurrection from the dead.
Matt 19:27 Then Peter said in reply, “See, we
have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?” 28 Jesus said
to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son
of Man will sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit
on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And everyone who has
left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands,
for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal
life. 30 But many who are first will be last, and the last
first.
Mark 10:29 Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you,
there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father
or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, 30 who will not receive a
hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and
children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.
31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”
All this
brings us to the nature of the resurrection.
Paul said
that he preached nothing but the hope/promises made to Israel; which was the
resurrection.
Paul said
he hoped to attain to a better resurrection.
Wow, great article. Very clear, it would seem impossible to negate this!
