THE ENEMY OF GOD WAS APOSTATE ISRAEL by Tuese Ahkiong



Enemy is use throughout Scripture in several different contexts.  At times, Satan is identified as an enemy; along with death, Philistines, the world, God, and apostate Israel.  

In The Old Testament, when Israel or leaders would rebel against God in being stiffed-necked, disobedient; worship false gods; persecute and kill God's prophets, The Lord became their enemy.

1. Isaiah 63:10  But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit; therefore HE TURNED TO BE THEIR ENEMY, AND HIMSELF FOUGHT AGAINST THEM.
2. 1 Samuel 28:16 And Samuel said, “Why then do you ask me, since THE LORD HAS TURNED FROM YOU AND BECOME YOUR ENEMY?
3. Lamentations 2:5  THE LORD HAS BECOME LIKE AN ENEMY; he has swallowed up Israel; he has swallowed up all its palaces; he has laid in ruins its strongholds, and he has multiplied in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.
4. Jeremiah 30:14   All your lovers have forgotten you; they care nothing for you; for I HAVE DEALT YOU THE BLOW OF AN ENEMY, the punishment of A MERCILESS FOE, because your guilt is great, because your sins are flagrant.
5. Micah 7:10 THEN MY ENEMY WILL SEE, and shame will cover her who said to me, “Where is the Lord your God?  My eyes will look upon her; now she will be trampled down like the mire of the streets.
6. 2 Chronicles 24:19 Yet he sent prophets among them to bring them back to the Lord. These testified against them, but THEY WOULD NOT PAY ATTENTION.
7. 2 Chronicles 36:15-16  The Lord, the God of their fathers, sent persistently to them by his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. ¹⁶ BUT THEY KEPT MOCKING THE MESSENGERS OF GOD, DESPISING HIS WORDS AND SCOFFING AT HIS PROPHETS, UNTIL THE WRATH OF THE LORD ROSE AGAINST HIS PEOPLE, UNTIL THERE WAS NO REMEDY.
8. Nehemiah 9:26  “Nevertheless, THEY WERE DISOBEDIENT AND REBELLED AGAINST YOU AND CAST YOUR LAW BEHIND THEIR BACKAND KILLED YOUR PROPHETS, WHO HAD WARNED THEM IN ORDER TO TURN THEM BACK TO YOU, AND THEY COMMITTED GREAT BLASPHEMIES.
9. Jeremiah 26:5 and to listen to the words of my servants the prophets whom I send to you urgently, THOUGH YOU HAVE NOT LISTENED,
10. Jeremiah 35:15  I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, sending them persistently, saying, ‘Turn now every one of you from his evil way, and amend your deeds, and do not go after other gods to serve them, and then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to you and your fathers.’ BUT YOU DID NOT INCLINE YOUR EAR OR LISTEN TO ME
11. Jeremiah 37:15  And the officials were enraged at Jeremiah, and they BEAT HIM AND IMPRISONED HIM in the house of Jonathan the secretary, for it had been made a prison.
12. Jeremiah 38:6  So they took Jeremiah and CAST HIM INTO THE CISTERN of Malchiah, the king's son, which was in the court of the guard, letting Jeremiah down by ropes. And. THERE WAS NO WATER IN THE CISTERN, BUT ONLY MUD, AND JEREMIAH SANK IN THE MUD
13. In the New Testament, Apostate Israel’s behavior and attitude did not change.  Even Yeshua predicted that they would kill Him, His disciples, prophets and Apostles.  This made Apostate Israel THE ENEMY OF GOD.
14. Luke 11:49 Therefore also the Wisdom of God said, ‘I WILL SEND THEM PROPHETS AND APOSTLES, SOME OF WHOM THEY WILL KILL AND PERSECUTE,’
15. 1 Thessalonians 2:14-16  For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are in Judea. FOR YOU SUFFERED THE SAME THINGS FROM YOUR OWN COUNTRYMEN AS THEY DID FROM THE JEWS, ¹⁵ WHO KILLED BOTH THE LORD JESUS AND THE PROPHETS, AND DROVE US OUT, AND DISPLEASE GOD AND OPPOSE ALL MANKIND ¹⁶ BY HINDERING US FROM SPEAKING TO THE GENTILES THAT THEY MIGHT BE SAVED—SO AS ALWAYS TO FILL UP THE MEASURE OF THEIR SINS. BUT WRATH HAS COME UPON THEM AT LAST!
16. Romans 9:27 And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the sons of Israel be as the sand of the sea, ONLY A REMNANT OF THEM WILL BE SAVED,
17. Galatians 4:28-29 Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise. ²⁹ BUT JUST AS AT THAT TIME HE WHO WAS BORN ACCORDING TO THE FLESH PERSECUTED HIM who was born according to the Spirit, SO ALSO IT IS NOW.
18.  Revelation 2:9 “‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and THE SLANDER OF THOSE WHO SAY THAT THEY ARE JEWS AND ARE NOT, BUT ARE A SYNAGOGUE OF SATAN.
19. Revelation 3:9  BEHOLD, I WILL MAKE THOSE OF THE SYNAGOGUE OF SATAN WHO SAY THAT THEY ARE JEWS AND ARE NOT, BUT LIE—behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you.
20. Matthew 5:12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, FOR SO THEY PERSECUTED THE PROPHETS WHO WERE BEFORE YOU.
21. Matthew 10:23  WHEN THEY PERSECUTE YOU in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel BEFORE THE SON OF MAN COMES.
22. Matthew 22:6  while THE REST SEIZED HIS SERVANTS, TREATED THEM SHAMEFULLY, AND KILLED THEM.
23. Matthew 23:34 Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, SOME OF WHOM YOU WILL KILL AND CRUCIFY, AND SOME YOU WILL FLOG IN YOUR SYNAGOGUES AND PERSECUTE FROM TOWN TO TOWN,
24. Matthew 23:37  “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, THE CITY THAT KILLS THE PROPHETS AND STONES THOSE WHO ARE SENT TO IT! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!
25. Luke 21:12  But before all this THEY WILL LAY THEIR HANDS ON YOU AND PERSECUTE YOU, DELIVERING YOU UP TO THE SYNAGOGUES AND PRISONS, AND YOU WILL BE BROUGHT BEFORE KINGS AND GOVERNORS FOR MY NAME'S SAKE.
26. John 15:20  Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ IF THEY PERSECUTED ME, THEY WILL ALSO PERSECUTE YOU. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
27. Acts 7:52 WHICH OF THE PROPHETS DID YOUR FATHERS NOT PERSECUTE? AND THEY KILLED THOSE WHO ANNOUNCED BEFOREHAND THE COMING OF THE RIGHTEOUS ONE, WHOM YOU HAVE NOW BETRAYED AND MURDERED,

29. Hebrews 11:36-37  OTHERS SUFFERED MOCKING AND FLOGGING, AND EVEN CHAINS AND IMPRISONMENT. ³⁷ THEY WERE STONED, THEY WERE SAWN IN TWO, THEY WERE KILLED WITH THE SWORD. THEY WENT ABOUT IN SKINS OF SHEEP AND GOATS, DESTITUTE, AFFLICTED, MISTREATED—
30. Matthew 5:43-44 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your ENEMY.’ 44 But I say to you, LOVE YOUR ENEMIES and pray for those who persecute you,
31. Matthew 10:36  And A PERSON'S ENEMIES WILL BE THOSE OF HIS OWN HOUSEHOLD.
32. Matthew 13:25  but while his men were sleeping, his ENEMY came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.
33. Matthew 13:28  He said to them, ‘An ENEMY has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’
34. Matthew 13:39  and THE ENEMY WHO SOWED THEM IS THE DEVIL. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.
35. Matthew 22:44  “‘The Lord said to my Lord, “SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES UNDER YOUR FEET”’?
36. Mark 12:36  David himself, in the Holy Spirit, declared, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, “SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES UNDER YOUR FEET.”’
37. Luke 1:71  that we should be SAVED FROM OUR ENEMIES and from the hand of all who hate us;
38. Luke 1:74  that we, BEING DELIVERED FROM THE HAND OF OUR ENEMIES, might serve him without fear,
39. Luke 6:27 “But I say to you who hear, LOVE YOUR ENEMIES, do good to those who hate you,
40. Luke 6:35  But LOVE YOUR ENEMIES, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.
41. Luke 10:19  Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, AND OVER ALL THE POWER OF THE ENEMY, and nothing shall hurt you.
42. Luke 19:27  But AS FOR THESE ENEMIES OF MINE, WHO DID NOT WANT ME TO REIGN OVER THEM, BRING THEM HERE AND SLAUGHTER THEM BEFORE ME.’”
43. Luke 20:43  UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES YOUR FOOTSTOOL.”’
44. Acts 2:35  UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES YOUR FOOTSTOOL.”’
45. Romans 5:10  FOR IF WHILE WE WERE ENEMIES we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
46. Romans 11:28  AS REGARDS THE GOSPEL, THEY ARE ENEMIES for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers.
47. 1 Corinthians 15:25  FOR HE MUST REIGN UNTIL HE HAS PUT ALL HIS ENEMIES UNDER HIS FEET.
48. Philippians 3:18  For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, WALK AS ENEMIES OF THE CROSS OF CHRIST.
49. Hebrews 1:13  And to which of the angels has he ever said, “SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET”?
50. Hebrews 10:13  waiting from that TIME UNTIL HIS ENEMIES SHOULD BE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET. 
51. Revelation 11:12  Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here!” And they went up to heaven in a cloud, and THEIR ENEMIES WATCHED THEM.
